For example, while obtaining Link’s glider is widely recommended as one of thefirst things to do inTears of the Kingdom, it would appear that doing so isn’t even necessary for leaving the game’s starting area. As discovered by Reddit user Baby-Worm, Link can actually leap from great heights as soon as he tames his first horse. Following that milestone, the trick to avoiding fall damage without a glider comes down to landing on Link’s steed, which will trigger the same mounting animation as simply jumping on a horse from a much shorter distance.

The method itself was reportedly discovered by pure accident. Elaborating on the video example of this technique that went viral on Reddit, Baby-Worm said they were on their way to obtain the glider before encountering a rock that fell from the sky. After usingTears of the Kingdom’sRecall abilityto ride that rock back to its point of origin, they found themselves on a small Sky Island with underwhelming loot and no apparent way down. But since their horse was already waiting for them below, they opted to try landing on it, thus discovering this cheesy method of avoiding fall damage without a glider.
