OneThe Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdomplayer has built a basketball hoop for Link in the game.Tears of the Kingdomtasks players with saving Princess Zelda and defeating Ganon, as usual. This time around it asks players to do it as creatively as possible. This is accomplished with the help of a slate of new abilities and tools that allow players to make anything they can imagine, even a basketball hoop.
Tears of the Kingdombrings back some features fromThe Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wildand mixes in some new ones to radically alter the minute-to-minute gameplay loop. One of the returning elements is the abilityto build a house that Link can call his own. The home-building mechanics have been expanded upon sinceBreath of the Wild, but putting a basketball hoop in Link’s yard requires a bit more than the home-building interface supplied by the game.

Perhaps the new ability players will use most often inTears of the Kingdomis Ultrahand. It allows players to pick up nearly any object in Hyrule and attach it to any other. It’s how players have been building everything from mechs toNFL-style field goalposts inTears of the Kingdom. A Reddit user who goes by the name of brusch13 posting in theTears of the Kingdomsubreddit decided that Link’s custom-built house wasn’t complete without a basketball hoop, so Link can work on his three-point shot when he’s not banishing evil.
The hoop made by brusch13 is simple but clever, mostly using pieces that can be found throughout Hyrule. TheTears of the Kingdomplayer used Ultrahandto attach two wooden beams to a large plank of wood that acts as a stabilizing base. To the beams, they attached another wooden plank to represent the backboard. For the basket, brusch13 used a Zonai Portable Pot. The pot is a single-use cooking pot that the player can pull out of their inventory at any time. For a ball, they used a Hydromelon. That’sTears of the Kingdom’s version of a watermelon, which can be found in the Gerudo Desert.
After putting some distance between themselves and the basket, brusch13 held a hydromelon high and lined up. They fired a long arching shot that was nothing but net, even though there was no actual net. Sadly, the hoop won’t last forever.Tears of the Kingdomdespawns the creation after a certain amount of time, or after the player has moved a certain distance away from it. Luckily, saving it in the Autobuild menuensures that brusch13 will be able to hoop it up in Link’s house, the pit of a volcano, or in the middle of the desert if they wanted.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdomis available on Nintendo Switch.
