Microsoft is preparing for a big month for Xbox. Later this month, Microsoft will hold its biggest event for the upcoming Xbox Series X console yet, during which, first and third-party games for theXbox Series X will be showcased, many of which are next-gen titles that have never been revealed. To help punctuate the late-July Xbox hype, Microsoft has announced the start of its Summer Games Fest demo even, kicking off on July 21.
PC gamers may be familiar with the Steam Game Festival, a temporary event where dozens of games make demos available for Steam users to try. TheXbox Summer Games Fest Demo Eventis the same idea, only for Xbox One games. Between July 21 and July 27, Xbox will make over 60 different game demos for console players to try as they please. But once the event has ended, the demos will go away and potentially never return.

The Xbox team does clarify that “demo” is not necessarily the best term to use for every single case. Many of thedemosmade available during the event are not wholly representative of what the game will be as a final released product. Xbox says they’re more comparable to convention show floor demos. They’re an opportunity for developers to introduce players to a game and get feedback, as well as for players to see if a game’s development is worth following.
In total, Xbox says that there will be over 60 new demos and somewhere between 75 and 100 demos in total. The full list of games will be revealed closer to the Xbox Summer Games Fest Demo Event’s start, but there is a list of games that are already confirmed, including RPGCris Tales,Destroy All Humans!,Haven,Hellpoint,Skatebird,Raji: An Ancient Epic,The Vale: Shadow of the Crown, andWelcome to Elk.
As should be clear, virtually all of the demos will likely be for various indie games. That was also the case for theSteam Game Festival. It’s possible that Microsoft may attempt to build some additional excitement for the event by putting in a demo of its own, or have its partners do something similar.
Xbox One gamers will be able to start playing the new demos starting on July 1 directly from theXbox dashboard. Some may end up in the Xbox Demos channel afterward, but for many, if not most, this will be the only chance to play these demos.
