In partnership with The Game Awards 2022, Wholesome Games decided to run a special event.Wholesome Gamesis a team that focuses on events showcasing “uplifting, compassionate, thoughtful video games” that typically avoid violence in favor of more relatable experiences. As such, it hosted a special Wholesome Snack: The Game Awards Edition Thursday afternoon ahead of this evening’s award show. During the show, several announcements and reveals were made for upcoming projects.

The Xbox Game Pass announcement made during the Wholesome Snack event is for a new title namedSpirittea.Spiritteais described as a life sim set in East Asia. It’s developed by indie studio Cheesemaster Games and published byindie label No More Robots. The plan at the moment is forSpiritteato launch as a Day One Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass title in 2023.
No More Robots describesSpiritteaas equallyinspired byStardew Valleyas well as anime and manga related to supernatural spirits. InSpirittea, the protagonist will escape to the countryside in an effort to find writing inspiration. In doing so, they’ll drink a strange and magical tea, allowing them to see spirits. They’ll then spend time fixing up an old bathhouse, with the spirits as their patrons. Spirits will need towels, snacks, and rooms, but there’s much more to the world ofSpiritteato discover.
Like inStardew Valley, players will spend plenty of time out in the world exploring and gathering to help make ends meet. The trailer forSpiritteashowed the player fishing, capturing butterflies with a net, digging for buried treasure, gathering ingredients for cooking, and more.Spiritteashould have more than enough content to keep players busy, to say the least.
While it may not be a major AAA game release,Spiritteahas the potential to be the next indie game to be virally popular. That’s part ofwhat makes Xbox Game Pass special. It puts games likeSpiritteain front of an audience it may otherwise have never found. Even if it doesn’t become a massive success, it will hopefully find a community that loves it that otherwise may have missed it entirely. Expect more information onSpiritteain 2023.
