World of Warcraftis making some huge improvements to both flying and Dragonriding in its next patch forDragonflight. Once the update drops,World of Warcraftfans will be able to soar across Azeroth faster, easier, and cheaper than ever before.
In a recent blog post,World of Warcraftrevealed the first details for Patch 10.1.5. TitledFractures in Time, this next content update introduces a mega-dungeon with huge story implications, a new public event called Time Rifts, and athird specialization forDragonflight’snew Evoker class.

However,World of Warcraftis also making some important changes to unlocking mounts in the upcoming update as well. Previously, players would have to visit a riding trainer at level 10, 20, 30, and 40 to purchase their riding skill, the last of which costs nearly 5000 gold. Starting inWorld of WarcraftPatch 10.1.5, players will automatically unlock these skills at the appropriate levels, without needing to visit a trainer or spend gold. What’s more, all players will receive a new free flying mount through a quest when they reach level 30–the Harbor Gryphon for Alliance characters, and the Scarlet Pterrordax for the Horde.
If that were not enough, it seems likeWorld of Warcraftmay be expanding Dragonridingto other zones outside the Dragon Isles. The blog post listed the “Kalimdor Grand Prix” as a new Dragonriding event, and the Patch 10.1.5 Public Test Realm has achievements linked to Dragonriding races on the old world continent. Additionally, over 100 flying mounts–including almost every draconic steed–have been given a new mount classification and Dragonriding animations, meaning they may be usable with the dynamic flying feature soon.
There has not been official confirmation that Dragonriding is headed to the old world, but it seems like it is definitely coming to Kalimdor, if notall flying-enabled zones inWorld of Warcraft. Likewise, the ability to use old flying mounts in Dragonriding might not come in Patch 10.1.5, but it seems probable, even if it might arrive a little later. More information will likely come in the next few weeks as details about the content update are made available.
Players are overjoyed about the upcoming changes to flying. While evidence suggestedWorld of Warcraftwould bring Dragonriding outside the Dragon Isles into the future, few expected it could come to the game so soon. With flying becoming easier to unlock, and Dragonriding possibly coming to the old world soon,World of Warcraftplayers can soon soar the skiesof Azeroth better than ever before.
