Wordlehas become an incredibly popular game, with many fansmakingWordlepart of their morning routine. For those who may be unfamiliar with it,Wordleis a browser-based game that gives players a new puzzle to complete daily. The premise is that players guess a five-letter word, and the game lets players know how many letters they got correct (highlighted yellow) and how many letters they got correct and in the correct spot (highlighted green).
There are many differentWordlestrategies out there, though with no clues as to what the word is on any given day, all players can do is guess. Generally,Wordleplayers will want to choose words that have commonly used letters in them, with a mix of vowels and consonants. However, it’s possible forWordleplayers to make a guess without using any vowels, even though it may not usually make a lot of sense to do so from a strategic standpoint.

As pointed out by Reddit user GrilledChese44,Wordleplayerscan guess the word “CWTCH” and it will count despite not having any vowels. For those who may not be familiar with the word, cwtch is a Welsh word that has a couple of different meanings. It can be used in reference to a cupboard, or it can be used to refer to cuddling. It’s one of the only words in the English language that doesn’t have a vowel, but it’s not the only one that players can use inWordle.
Based on our own testing, it’s also possible to use the word “GRRRL” inWordleand have it count. Of course,Wordleplayers are much better off using different words, especially since “GRRRL” has three Rs in it and won’t do a good job of helping players figure out the right word. In fact, one could argue that using CWTCH or GRRRL is like a hard mode version ofWordle, where players are given a lot less to work with as they make their guesses.
There are words inWordlethat are proven to give players an actual advantage when it comes to guessing. A computer scientist discovered that one of thebestWordlewords to useat the start is “LATER.” A linguist, meanwhile, suggested that the word “IRATE” is one of the best words to use in the game.
Wordlewas recently acquired by the New York Times, so it’s possible that changes are on the way, though that remains to be seen. For now,Wordleremains a straightforward but popular puzzle game that users can play on the web with little hassle.
