Generally speaking, there is a solid line between video games and reality, although the advancement of technology has begun to make that line blurry in a few places. Sometimes, however, a game like FromSoftware’sElden Ringbecomes sufficiently popular that fans begin transferring parts of it to their daily lives. Currently,Elden Ring’s Caelid region is trending in Spain for real-world reasons and giving rise to a new meme in the process. Some video game environments become so embedded in the popular consciousness that fans begin to see them in the real world. One of the most famous examples of this happening is the iconicSilent Hillfog world, which has inspired series fans and newcomers alike to makeSilent Hill-themed comments on posts about foggy weather for years. Now, the Caelid region fromElden Ring—a poisoned wasteland under a burning orange-red sky—is set to join it.RELATED:Intense Elden Ring PvP Battle Ends in Most Poetic Way PossibleCaelid was trending on Spanish Twitter for one simple reason: large parts of Spain have been coated in Saharan calima. In other words, a load of dust from the Sahara has been carried across the Mediterranean by hot air, dyeing the sky a bright orange and coating cars, buildings, and streets. Many witnesses have taken to Twitter and begun posting about how much it looks like they’re living in theblasted land of Caelid.

Twitter user KiruhiShay_TTV even went so far as to post comparison pictures of the real-life and in-game skies.Elden Ringfans may noticea distinct similarity between the real-life city of Murcia and Caelid under these conditions. Although the sky is more of a light orange than the angry red found in the game, the way the whole city looks orange as a result is arguably more ominous thanElden Ring’s version.

Another Twitter user, GusVampFring, put a spotlight on this with a photo of the open street showing cars, a cyclist, and telephone poles all bathed in a dull reddish haze.

A third Twitter user, OkabeAmadeus, shared a picture demonstrating that the orange sky can make even a row of parked cars and a building full of activity seem threatening. The photo also features palm trees, which have been reduced to silhouettes by the poor lighting. Fortunately, it does not appear that thethreatening mutated wildlife of Caelidhas followed the red sky into the real world.

Elden Ringis available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
