A recent controversy that originated withWorld of Warcraftand progressed toTwitcheventually led Asmongold to share his thoughts on the matter during a stream on July 23. This wouldn’t be the first time that the streamer has spoken out on drama, and it likely won’t be the last. While the issue that recently occurred didn’t turn into a large-scale debacle, Asmongold’s perspective on the matter raised a few important questions about the Amazon-owned streaming platform.

Twitch Could Be More Forgiving to Its Creators
There have been plenty ofTwitch bans in 2023so far and the reasons for each individual punishment have varied across the board. Twitch’s many guidelines often lead to gray areas which can make it difficult for content creators to discern what actions they perform are seen as blamable. There are obvious rules that most streamers do their best to abide by but when it’s a vague category, Twitch may hand out bans without a solid reason.
On top of this, Twitch bans can be issued without any reason as to why. This has been seen withPewdiepie’s twice-banned Twitch channel, though it has since been restored. In other circumstances, although Twitch supplies a basis, a ban doesn’t seem like an adequate response for de-platforming a creator. Typically, Twitch returns accounts depending on the severity of the offense. This is especially true for those who don’t regularly break the terms of service. Still, losing access to one’s channel can be debilitating for those that rely on streaming as a major source of income.
This time, it was alleged griefing behavior by TinyViolin69 in a Hardcore realm ofWorld of Warcraftthat caught Asmongold’s attention. The community ofWorld of Warcrafthas been debating the incident heavily, as TinyViolin69 was a known griefer that was allowed to join a guild. He played with other members over the course of a year, gaining their trust and participating in raids. During an encounter with the Four Horsemen, his actions caused about 38 people to permanently lose their characters, which in turn some labeled as griefing.
On the contrary, others including Asmongold defended TinyViolin69 by stating that because it was Judgement Day inWorld of Warcraft, he wasn’t actually griefing the guild. Even if it could be considered trolling, Asmongold believes that people should not “get banned for anything” unless it breaks the law. He cemented this by saying that Blizzard could have given TinyViolin69 “the Tyler1 treatment” and Twitch shouldn’t be taking action for what happened during a game.
The overall consensus from Asmongold appears to be that trolling in video games shouldn’t affect a Twitch channel’s standing. “It’s not really a big deal either way”, he said after reading a viewer’s comment that read: “Imagine gettingbanned for griefing in a game. Clown world”. It appears that the only justifiable bans in Asmongold’s eyes are for people who engage in criminal behavior. Anything less isn’t truly substantial to him.
While some people agree with Asmongold, there are those that don’t. The other side believes thatall of Twitch’s guidelinesshould be followed in order to continue streaming on the site. It should be mentioned that it is currently againstTwitch’s rules to grief in a video game. Regardless of anyone’s personal stance, these are important topics to discuss for the streaming platform and how it treats its creators going forward.
