Right now, fans of theResident Evilfranchise are looking forward toVillage’s upcoming DLC, and beyond that, many fans believe thatResident Evil 9will bring the story began withRE7to an end. However, with this emphasis on the Winters family, the only long-standing character who has really had a presence lately is Chris Redfield.

Of course, the same could be said of short-lived characters too.Resident Evil 6was effectively the last co-op game in the franchise, and in doing so, it told stories through the eyes of characters like Leon, Chris, and their partners. Sherry Birkin’s partner, though, was arguably the most interesting. Jake Muller, or Jake Wesker, was the son of Albert Wesker, a hardened mercenary, and a man whose blood was the cure.RE6may be more action-focused, but Jake’s story is one with weight too. The big question is, comeResident Evil 7, Village, and the in-universe happenings, where is Jake Muller?

Resident Evil 6 Ending

At the end ofJake’s campaign inResident Evil 6, he is given a sort of blanket and farewell ending that is passable. Sherry ensures that his connection to Albert Wesker is made super confidential, as she and her bosses realize that knowledge could very well push the world to the brink again. At the same, Jake is shown to be messaging Sherry with a joke about his pricing. This, in turn, suggests that he intends to keep contact with her (who has also been missing for quite some time). It’s what follows that provides the full blanket though.

Jake is shown taking an apple from a kid, in a roundabout tongue-in-cheek way of showing he is still a mercenary. In essence, the apple is shown to be his payment of sorts (versus old prices) and reflects on a Jake who is more likely to help out than the one fans meet at the start of the game. It’s a happy ending, but it leaves big open holes. It’s hard to imagine in a world whereAda Wongcan find him, where Umbrella is operating under some name, and all sorts of evil organizations exist that no one would eventually piece together his whereabouts, hunt him down, and ruin his happily ever after.

In theory, until Capcom says otherwise, there’s where Jake is mentally and physically: do-gooder mercenary work.Resident Evil 9, or any DLC between now and then, is unlikely to discuss Jake’s role in the franchise, much like it’s unlikely to comment onLeon’s role in theResident Evilfranchise. However, should Capcom ever decide to come back, it seems Jake is just one apple away.

Resident Evil 6is available on PS3, PS4, Switch, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
