Summary
Throughout Netflix’sWednesday, it is revealed that members of the Addams Family possess certain supernatural powers, but the patriarch does not. It is also highly likely that Pugsley Addams will share his mother and sister’s psychic abilities if he attends Nevermore in Season 2. As for Gomez Addams,he seems to be the odd one out in the Addams clan. InWednesday, it becomes known that supernatural powers run in the bloodline, so unless the trait skipped a generation with Gomez, it’s probable that he’ll be awakening his own abilities in Season 2.
Almost every member of the Addams Family has a unique power. Of course, the main story arc forWednesday Addams is the discovery of her psychic abilities, which she inherited from Morticia Addams. Wednesday says that she’s been experiencing powerful psychic visions that come on suddenly, but she can’t pick and choose when to summon them. Her visions can occur at random, although they are typically triggered when she touches a person or object of significance. Wednesday uses these powers to discover that Tyler is the Hyde. Morticia, like her daughter, also experienced these psychic visions, though she was able to conjure them at will using an obsidian necklace. While both Addams women are psychics, Wednesday is a raven, while Morticia is a dove.

Gomez and Uncle Fester are brothersin the Netflix seriesWednesdayand other adaptations of The Addams Family since the 1970s. In the 1960s sitcom, Fester was the maternal uncle of Morticia, whose name rhymes with Morticia’s mother’s name, Hester. In the show,Uncle Fester possesses the power to make electricity, an ability that comes in handy many times throughout the season, especially when resurrecting Thing. Since Gomez and Fester are brothers in theWednesdaylore, it would make sense forGomez to also be able to harness some kind of element. There’s a fan theory regarding Gomez’s hidden talent that’s been circulating the internet ever sinceWednesdaywas released. The theory suggests that Gomez Addams has pyrokinetic abilities. In other words, he can start fires on command.
Gomez Addams Could Possess Pyrokinetic Powers
While it is also possible thatGomez could be a psychic like Morticia and Wednesday, there seems to be a theme among the Addams men and women, respectively. It appears as though Morticia’s side of the family are mainly psychics, whereas Gomez’s side can harness the elements.Pugsley has yet to reveal his unique ability, but the chances are that he’ll inherit Uncle Fester’s electrokinetic ability or be a fire-wielder like his father, if Gomez turns out to exhibit pyrokinetic powers. Either way, it’s certainlya part of Gomez’s character that needs to be addressed in Season 2.
At the end of Season 1, once Tyler is in custody and Crackstone is defeated, Wednesday receives a cellphone from Xavier so they can keep in touch during the school break. However,Wednesday starts receiving threatening messagesand photos of herself from a stalker, whose identity is unknown at that time. Writer and co-creator ofWednesday, Miles Millar, said that there’s a lot more to be discovered about the Addams Family. “We felt like we just touched the surface with those characters and the actors are so amazing in those roles,” he toldTVLine. “Catherine is, I think, an iconic Morticia. The relationship between Wednesday and Morticia is also essential to the show, and the idea that Wednesday is trying to forge her own path outside the family is important.”

Luis Guzman’s Gomez Will Take Pages From Raul Julia’s Book
While nothing has been said as to Gomez’s powers, Luis Guzman was asked if Gomez would be returning for Season 2 in full force. In fact,Guzman will replace Ortega for Season 2’s iconic dance sequence. At this point, no season ofWednesdaywould be complete without one. Even more good news, it looks like Guzman’s Gomez will be taking a page out of Raul Julia’s book. In the 1991 movieThe Addams Family,Gomez Addams exhibits incredible reflexes, but he’s also a talented swordsman and gymnast. Guzman himself confirmed a sword fight for Gomez in Season 2, saying: “That’s the plan. That’s the plan. I’m going to dance; I’m going to have a sword fight.” So even if Gomez doesn’t get his pyrokinetic abilities like the community is hoping for, at least he’ll have the feel of old-school Gomez.
Wednesday’s Gomez and Morticia both attended Nevermore Academy before Wednesday.Nevermore is known as the school for outcasts and those with ‘ghoulish’ tendencies. Although Wednesday hadn’t yet discovered her psychic abilities when she was sent off to Nevermore, there’s a recurring trend that all students have some kind of supernatural power.Gomez may not have discovered his powers yet, but the more likely outcome is that Gomez simply hasn’t felt the need to show off his powers yet. If this stalker poses as much of a threat to Wednesday’s safety as it would seem, it might be time for some divine intervention from Gomez and Morticia, who are looking out for their daughter.

With the existence of Thing inWednesday, another popular theory suggests thatGomez Addams has the unique ability to reanimate the dead. So far, no existing student at Nevermore has exhibited such traits, so Gomez doesn’t necessarily fit into any specific category. That being said, Gomez could have practiced these skills as a young boy and perfected them when he brought Thing back from the dead. The pyrokinesis theory seems more popular, but the alternative would provide a little more context as to where Thing came from.
