The last couple of months have been exciting for fans of theWarcraftfranchise with the announcement of theDragonflightexpansion andWrath of the Lich King Classic. Blizzard just announced a new mobile game set in theWarcraftuniverse calledWarcraft Arclight Rumble.

Warcraft Arclight Rumbleis a tower defense-like action strategy game withstrong ties to theWarcraft’sRTS roots. Blizzard is promising fast-paced real-time strategy battles and an “easy to learn, hard to master”Warcraftgaming experience withArclight Rumble.

According to Blizzard,Warcraft Arclight Rumblewill host a verbose single player campaign with over 70 maps set across Kalimdor and the Eastern Kingdoms full ofrecognizable villains and monsters fromWorld of Warcraft Classic. Players can collect over 60 different miniaturized versions of iconicWarcraftheroes, villains, units, and monsters to build their armies, and can field classic spells to turn the tide of battle. Though players will not build bases like in previousWarcraftstrategy games, they can capture towers, meeting stones, and gold mines on the map to bolster their forces and protect their base from the enemy’s attacks.

Warcraft Arclight Rumblewill also have competitive and cooperative content. It boasts a head-to-head dueling mode where players can pit their armies against each other, as well as guild and Raid systems which will allow players to battle alongside one another.

ManyWarcraftfans are cautiously optimistic aboutWarcraft Arclight Rumble. Despite the lucrative market, mobile games carry a stigma among many gamers. However, the development team behindWarcraft Arclight Rumbleconsists of manyWarcraftand Blizzard veterans. Many fans hope these developers will ensureWarcraft Arclight Rumblewill deliver the “authenticWarcraftexperience” it is promising.

However, plenty of fans are not satisfied with what they’ve seen fromWarcraft Arclight Rumbleso far. ThoughWarcraft Arclight Rumble’sart style and gameplay are charming and reminiscent ofWarcraft, many fans have noticed the game shares similarities to other prolific mobile titles likeCrash Royale. Many of these fans were hoping for a narrative-focusedWarcraftgame they could play on PC, or a companion toWorld of Warcraft, and were disappointed to seeWarcraft Arclight Rumbleis gearing up to be a chaotic, narrative-lite mobile battle game.

Warcraft Arclight Rumbledoes not have an official release schedule at the moment, but Blizzard is already offering pre-registration for early access on the official site. The game seems to be far along in development, and is already in closed alpha, so a beta forWarcraft Arclight Rumbleis likely not far off.
