Half-Life: Alyxmade shockwaves when it was announced earlier this year, with Valve finally confirming it would revisit theHalf-Lifefranchise in a VR setting. Fans are naturally incredibly excited to see where the series will go next, yet, unfortunately, the significant portion ofHalf-Lifeplayers on consoles won’t be able to see the franchise’s return firsthand.Alyxis, after all, a Steam exclusive. However, it appears that could eventually wind up not being the case.
Speaking to Push Square, Valve designer Greg Coomer talked about whether the game could see a port to PlayStation VR, which, surprisingly, he didn’t shoot down entirely. While Coomer admitted that the prospect isn’t currently on the cards as Valve’s “very focused on the initial release”coming to Steam, he also stated that, “Sony’s VR platform has been a huge success for the medium, and we assume that lots of Sony customers would love to experience this new chapter of Half-Life”.

He finalizes his statement by clarifying that while the game is primarily focused on making its way to Steam, the team has “not ruled anything out.” It’s far from a confirmation, but it’s interesting to hear that Valve is considering bringingAlyxto PSVR for the console’s owners to enjoy. No doubt the large number of PlayStation players who first experiencedThe Orange Boxback on the PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360 would love to see the next chapter in the series, which Valve could make a reality through porting the game to the PlayStation 4.
It seems as though the next iteration of the franchise will be abig deal for VRas well, with numerous sources citing that Valve’s next take on the series will attempt to revolutionize the technology. With PSVR being one of the more common and affordable headsets on the market, it makes sense to eventually portAlyxto the system in attempts to widen the audience getting their hands on the franchise’s next big entry.
Until then, it appears Steam players will be the first to experienceAlyxand finally step back into the world ofHalf-Life.The game already appears to be lined up to become a sensational success, with Valve’s headsets reaching shortages due to the unbelievable demand for the VR spinoff. Whether the game leads to aresurrection for the beloved seriesremains to be seen, but it should be one of 2020’s most important releases regardless.
