Suda51 of Grasshopper Manufacture teased thatShadows of the Damned’s remaster will be released sometime in 2024. Earlier this summer,Suda51 and Grasshopper Manufacture announced thatShadows of the Damnedwould be getting remastered. The initial announcement was rather brief, with a quick video released on Grasshopper Manufacture’s channel showing off some of its gameplay, remastered visuals, and a comedic skit involving Garcia Horspur. This initial announcement didn’t contain details about a release window or platforms it would release on.

Shadows of the Damnedwas developed by Suda51 in collaboration with formerResident Evilcreative lead Shinji Mikami and formerSilent Hillcomposer Akira Yamaoka, and was published by Electronic Arts in 2011 for the Xbox 360 and PS3. Infamously,Shadows of the Damnedwent through a troubled production, with EA enforcing changes that caused it to morph into something that Suda51 was heartbroken over previously. Years later,Suda51 has a fondness forShadows of the Damned, enough that he got the rights for the IP from EA in order to release a remaster.

Grasshopper Interested In Shadows of the Damned 2

In a new article published by 4Gamer (archived and translated by Gematsu), several Japanese game creators shared their ambitions for 2024. These include developers from companies like Bandai Namco, Square Enix, andGrasshopper Manufacture. Suda51’s statement was simple, stating that 2024 will be a “lively” year for the company, thanks to the remaster and a new game that the studio is working on. “2024 will be a lively year for Grasshopper. A remaster of Shadows of the Damned will be released. And we are hard at work on a new title,” said Suda.

Players were able to get reacquainted withShadows of the Damnedin 2020 when it was made available to purchase on Xbox One, along with joining the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription service via EA Play. However,Shadows of the Damnedwas then digitally delisted in 2021, with many theorizing it was due to Xbox and EA’s licensing deal expiring. Outside a physical copy of the original, this remaster will likely be the most accessible way to play this shooter.

WhileShadows of the Damned’s gameplay is very similar toResident Evil 4, it has a very different premise, tone, and sense of humor that make it a unique experience.Shadows of the Damnedwould also be referenced in some of Suda51’s later work, such asTravis Strikes Again: No More Heroes, which featured a level and boss fight that was inspired by the 2011 shooter. Fans should expect more updates regarding theShadows of the Damnedremaster before it releases later in 2024.
