Now thatTo Your Eternityhas had two seasons of anime put out there, it seems the story is far enough along to take a look back (or forward in the case of the manga), to see which story arcs were stronger than others.

To Your Eternity - Pioran And Fushi Drinking From A River

As Fushi learns, adapts, and grows as a “person”, he does so by coming into contact with all kinds of people. Each person who makes a real impact on Fushi tends to also have an arc based around their life or adventures. So, let’s go over them all, from worst to best, and talk about the strongest moments inTo Your Eternity.

Disclaimer: This includes story arcs that are only in the manga, spoilers ahead.

To Your Eternity - Hisame Looking At Fushi Concerningly

11Post-Spirit Bear Arc

First up is the Post-Spirit Bear Arc, and the main reason it’s lowest on the list is simply that this shouldn’t even really count. Whereas the Spirit Bear Arc encompassed 9 chapters, this one only takes two.

Essentially, this arc serves to show Pioran and Fushi while traveling toward Takunaha as well as the Nokker’s ability to steal Fushi’s forms from him, and that’s quite literally it.

To Your Eternity - The Man In Black As A Human Freezing Mimori And Horitoshi

10Guardians Arc

Next up is the Guardians Arc, which may surprise some fans, given the tantalizingly mysterious start to it. At the very end of the Jananda Island Arc, Fushi was shown to be much older looking and also alone on some island fighting Nokkers.

Now, at the start of this Arc, he explains what he’s been doing while talking to The Man In Black, and it basically amounts to a whole lot of nothing. From this conversation, Fushi decides to leave the island and “coincidentally” comes into contact with Hisame, the first of the many Hayase Descendants. Not only is Hisame a terribly misguided and frankly unmemorable character, but the negative impact she hason a fan-favorite character like Tonari is unforgivable.

9Mimori Arc

Jumping right from a post-time skip Arc to another post-time skip Arc, it’s time to talk about the Mimori Arc. This portion ofTo Your Eternity’sstory takes place in the modern era, a decent time after Fushi and his band of friends have started getting used to modern life.

It’s named the Mimori Arc after the character Mimori, who wanted to die, did so, and then had a sentient Nokker use her body to take her place. The reason this Arc is so low, despite introducing so many new concepts and characters, is simply because this is the point where the modern era ofTo Your Eternitystarted to jump the shark a bit. Plus, let’s be honest, Horitoshi as a character is just gross, no matter how much the author tries to redeem him.

8New World Arc

Sadly, both of the Modern Era arcs ofTo Your Eternityrank pretty low on here, despite how interesting of an idea it is to have Fushi thrown into the modern world. While there is a lot to like about this Arc, such as seeing all of the fan-favorite characters like Bon, Gugu, March, and Tonari interacting with each other, the story direction from here until the Mimori Arc is pretty aimless.

Events just happen, there’s no real motivation to do anything, and because of Fushi’s new advanced powers, there really isn’t much consequence to anything even though characters are acting like there is. When there aren’t any “stakes” like injury, ruined relationships, or even death in a conflict then what’s the point of even having one?

To Your Eternity - Fushi Showing Eko Around Renril

7Renril Arc

The Renril Arc is more like an odyssey than a simple arc, because it’s so incredibly long. Fushi and Prince Bon’s plan to defend Renril from the forewarned Nokker invasion, and the actual execution of this plan takes an absurdly long time, and a lot happens in between.

And, while it is one of the more battle-heavy arcs with a lot of new developments in Fushi, it also is one of the more complicated in both good and bad ways. A lot happens, and not all of it makes total sense, with the prime example being Kahaku’s nosedive off the deep end near the end of the arc.

To Your Eternity - Bennett Church Arc Fushi Stretching Out Iron Prison

6Bennett Church

The Bennet Church inTo Your Eternityis basically the same “evil religious organization” that is seen in so many movies, books, and anime. They think they’re always right, they’ll use the name of “God” to do anything they want, and they’re on the opposite side of the protagonist.

If this arc focused entirely on the Bennett Church, it would be ranked lowest. Thankfully it isn’t, and there’s a lot to like here. For example, this portion of Fushi’s story has a lot of growth for Prince Bon, some growth in Fushi’s powers and understanding, and some really powerful moments overall.

To Your Eternity - Tonari And Gang Of Friends Looking At Camera

5Jananda Island Arc

In terms of story complexity, Jananda Island is a pretty great blend of keeping things simple while also slowly introducing new mysteries to be solved. Yes, the Nokkers are a large part of this Arc’s conflict, but thereader still knows almost nothing about them.

Additionally, this is another Arc where Fushi just advances in his humanity by leaps and bounds thanks to Tonari, her gang of friends, and all the morally grey issues that come from living on an island of prisoners. Plus, the end of this arc eventually impacts so many events later on in the story, thanks to the obsessive “deal"that Hayase makes while tied up on a boat.

4Spirit Bear Arc

Honestly, instead of being called the Spirit Bear Arc, it makes much more sense for it to be called the March Arc. Compared to many of the other Arcs on here, this one is so incredibly insular. It focuses on a small group of characters and their simple goal of keeping one adorable girl (March, obviously) safe.

Hayase is a great antagonist, Parona is a fantastic hero,Fushi is finally named, and Pioran plays her own part as well. Plus, it has one of the most heartwrenching moments of the series by far.

3Uralis Kingdom Arc

Bonchien Nicoli La Tasty Peach Uralis, otherwise known as Prince Bon, is by far one of the most energetic and shockingly complex characters introduced in the story thus far.

Whether it’s the fact that he can see spirits, that he’s both intelligentand incredibly spoiled, or that he’s good-naturedbut is still “using” Fushi to a certain degree, everything he does has layers to it. It has also the insular aspects that worked for the Spirit Bear Arc, while also introducing larger elements that made Renril so enjoyable.

2Nameless Boy Arc

Ah, where Fushi’s journey first started. The Nameless Boy Arc is obviously from a simpler time when viewers and readers had no idea what Fushi really was, what the Nokkers were, or even where the story was going to go. All they knew was there was an immortal orb, it grew until it eventually became a wolf named Joaan, and that wolf had originally been the pet of the Nameless Boy.

But, it’s exactly because things were so simple and mysterious that this arc is so perfect. If at the end of this sad arc, Fushi just takes on the boy’s form, walks out the door, and the credits roll, people still would have loved it as a complete story.
