To Your Eternityseason 2, episode 7, “Crime and Forgiveness”, starts off from last week’s tensions and leaves us with a cliffhanger. Last week, we last left the group with Bon and Todo being imprisoned in two cages on a pulley above a ravine, and Fushi was encased in molten iron. Episode seven swiftly passes through the months of this incarceration. Fushi can only stay awake for a few seconds before he is basically killed again and sleeps for a few minutes before repeating the process.

Bon is sharing his cage with a starving little boy named Chabo who has been locked up separately from his mother who he insists is still alive, but Boncan see her ghost following her son. As time marches on, Bon is constantly interrogated by the Church of Bennett about Fushi’s new demon status. Bon quickly and casually reveals his own ability to see specters, so now the church officials demand he prove that his power comes from Bennett. Todo is quietly surprised but accepts this information easily; it explains Bon’s behavior well.

Bon Seeing Chabo’s Ghost

Bon has torecite prayers and answer questionsthat don’t really have a concrete answer, but his ghost friends from Uralis help him by whispering in his ear. Every day, the three prisoners are given some water and some bread. After Bon tried to have some of Chabo’s, Todo decides to share hers, breaking her ration in half everyday. The little boy saves half of his bread for his mother.

Bon is forced to go through some introspection because of a lack of anything better to do between the church’s questioning. He thinks about why he even wants to be king and how much he misses his family. They had sent a ransom for him, but the church refused to take it because Fushi had made the coins.

One day, during one of Bon’s interrogations, Chabo’s mother whispers into his ear the identity of the man who killed her, who was actually standing before them. Chabo finally believes his mother to be gone, and numbly eats all the bread he saved. As Bon’s beard grows in and his finery is ruined from constant wear, he thinks about how he has lived his life so far. Bon realizes that he never actually wanted to be king,he just wanted a dream to pursue.

We slowly see Bon, who wasn’t a horrible person to begin with, shed some of his selfishness. He starts to care for Chabo, stops taking Todo’s food, and even demanded that the Church of Bennett release those two and keep him trapped.

One day, the pulley connecting both Bon’s and Todo’s cages started shifting because Todo has been losing weight rapidly because of sharing all her rations with the prince. Bon and Chabo fall down into the river at the bottom of the ravine, and there were hungry crocodiles down there. Bon literally ripped the wooden planks off the cage and defended with them. The churchmen adjusted the weight, and they were brought back up, but the stress was too much on Chabo, and he collapsed, the church officials doing nothing to help him as Bon screamed for assistance.

Finally, Fushi enters the picture again, having learned how to create molten iron after suffering from it for months;his regenerative abilities grewas he was hurt over and over again. Fushi, in the form of Tonari, slowly melted a tunnel in the iron, pushing himself forward as he eventually began to retain consciousness longer than a few seconds. Fushi’s prison, a block of solid iron, acted as a very controversial gathering for the townspeople. Fushi worshipers and church followers would all be there, watching, waiting, and praying.

As Fushi moved out, the top corner of the iron cube started heated up and protruding forward as Fushi clawed his way outside. Once his body started being seen, a woman’s form with an arm outstretched, the people reacted. Fushi supporters tried to stop the Church of Bennett from dropping water on the cube, but failed, and Tonari’s form was solidified. The people of Entus believed Fushi tobe trapped once more, but a very familiar owl could be seen flying away.

Fushi was able to escape without anyone noticing, and while the Beholder commented in mild awe over Fushi’s ability to retain his sense of self through the torture, he tracked Bon by his scent to the ravine. Bon, holding a dying Chabo, was floored to see Fushi using his bare hands to melt the iron bars of his cell. As they descended towards the crocodiles, Fushi makes as much food as he needs to in order to keep them from attacking.

Fushi makes a boat for them to escape, but, steeling his resolve, Prince Bon offers to stay behind. As long as Entus believe Fushi to be a threat to their religious strength, people who follow and care about Fushiwill always be in danger; Bon will stay and see through his trial and meet back up with them later.

Fushi is reluctant but agrees, making two corpses of Chabo and Todo. Fushi also gives his consent to Bon claiming the immortal as a demon as long as it will help everyone be saved. Fushi smiles, stating he’s always in favor of living, and tells Bon he’ll be waiting. Fushi departs after Bon asks him to tell Todo, “I’m sorry I couldn’t make the right decision.”

Execution

This is a trick however; Bon plans on being the scapegoat of this whole event. He states that Fushi doesn’t need him anymore andactively antagonizes the Churchof Bennett when they show up to question what happened. He said that a demon killed Chabo and Todo and proudly stated that it was associated with Fushi. As soon as he acknowledged Fushi as a devil, Bon still stated that he loves him. That kind of herasy earns him an execution.

Bon is accepting but still nervous and bitter about his situation. Despite having such incredible powers, he was a coward and refused to face a reality in which he didn’t have everything he wanted. His two ghosts comfort him, sharing their own shameful, lonely deaths, and hold his hand as he’s lead in chains to the guillotine. Bon thought of his family as the executioner was approaching, wishing them all well and apologizing for any slights. He addresses his younger brother last, telling him to take care of Uralis for him, knowing he’ll do a good job. His last thoughts were of Fushi, whom he said he was honored to have met. An owl could be seen flying overhead as the guillotine falls.
