Magic in a lot of games is a fundamental force, and whether used for good or bad, it’s still brilliant. Though in all of these games, magic comes from a different source, so no two magic systems will be the same.

What would happen if the gaming world’s borders were destroyed, and other magic users could fight against other magic users?
Triss Merigold fromThe Witcherseries is an exceptional mage, but not the best when it comes to offensive force. If she had to fight other video game mages, how would she fare? Well, here is a list of those she would best and those who she would lose.

10Triss Loses: Vivi (Final Fantasy 9)
When anyone says the word mage, Vivi is usually the first thing that pops into people’s heads. He is the adorable black mage fromFinal Fantasy 9. He doesn’t know much about the world, falls on his face a lot, and is severely lacking in self-confidence, but don’t underestimate him.
If you get on his bad side, he could incinerate you quite easily but will feel quite bad about it afterward. Though if you touch his friends, you’ve got his most powerful spell Doomsday straight for you.

Triss may be a powerful mage, but her talents lie in healing and support, not destruction only a black mage can cause.
9Triss Wins: Lulu (Final Fantasy 10)
Lulu fromFinal Fantasy 10, she is one of the many guardians of Yuna and is integral to the plot by helping Tidus come to terms with the world of Spira.
She is much like Vivi, as she is specialized in Black Magic. However, she also uses voodoo based magic to control dolls to amplify her magic or to attack with. Her overdrive, Fury, is nothing to scoff at, as she can cast black magic spells rapidly, to decimate her foes.

Triss, who is an exception mage, will have no problem with dealing with Lulu. However, she must be dealt with quickly as Fury might turn the tide of this battle back to Lulu’s favor.

8Triss Loses: Rita (Tales of Vesperia)
Rita was orphaned at a very early age, and due to her lack of family and friends, she devoted her life to blastia/magic research. This dedication to her art has allowed her to use and channel ferocious magic.
She is primarily a full-on offensive magic-user, and if you give her time, she will bombard you with one high-level spell one after the other. Though Rita does have some single spell capabilities, she mainly has within her arsenal massive area of effect spells, fantastic for clearing out waves of monsters one after the other.

Even though Rita isn’t the best at single target spells, if Triss was caught once, she’d be left upon for a barrage of AoE spells that do mighty damage even against a single opponent. No way Triss’s defensive spells could hold up.
7Triss Wins: Kamek The Magikoopa (Super Mario)
Kamek is an old and powerful MagiKoopa from theSuper Mariofranchise, who is an advisor to Bowser. He is also a high-ranking official in the Koopa Troopa and, oddly enough, the archnemesis of Yoshi.
His magical ability is mostly firing magic blasts out of his wand; however, that is not the only thing this old magic-user can do. Kamek can also teleport whenever he pleases, can transform objects into living enemies, and can also power up bosses.

If Mario can take down Kamek with a couple of bops to the head, then Triss, a seasoned magic-user, will have no problem.

6Triss Loses: Agahnim (The Legend of Zelda: A Link To The Past)
Agahnim was the first magic-user to be given a critical role in theLegend of Zeldaseries inA Link To The Past. He is a dark and devious fellow by gaining the trust of the royal family of Hyrule. He then throws the entire kingdom into chaos by killing the king, brainwashing all of the kingdom’s soldiers and kidnapping seven maidens to break the seal to the Dark World. His true goal.
Even though Agahnim relies on manipulation, his combat magic is just as powerful. His fireballs can only be deflected with the power of the Master Sword. So unless Triss can somehow become the chosen hero and wield the legendary blade, she has no chance of winning. Unless she uses a bug-catching net…

5Triss Wins: Tellah (Final Fantasy 4)
Tellah is a wise old magic-user fromFinal Fantasy 4and is a master of both White and Black magic, which is exceptionally rare in theFinal Fantasyseries. He is on a quest for vengeance to find and kill the man responsible for his daughter’s death.
However, Tellah’s age is his greatest weakness, and Triss’s youth is one of her greatest assets. Even if Tellah uses his ultimate spell Meteor if Triss can survive this ruthless attack, due to Tellah’s age, the consequences would be fatal.

But there is no way that Triss would come out unscathed. This battle has to be won before Meteor is even used. But if Triss was the one Tellah wanted to kill, there is no hope of that happening.
4Triss Loses: Sarah (Lost Odyssey)
Sarah is a mighty magic-user in theLost OdysseyRPG, who is also immortal. The grief and sadness she has suffered throughout her extremely long life have intensified her magic.
Like all immortals, she has lost her memory, but the pain of the heart cannot be forgotten. It lingers on, causing her to seclude herself in isolation until her husband, Kaim, rescues her.
Triss, although as a mage, can live a long life, she cannot compare with Sarah, who has lived for thousands of years. The battle experience between the two is as different as night and day, so this is a battle Triss cannot win. Also, you’re able to’t kill an immortal.
3Triss Wins: Cheria (Tales of Graces F)
Cheria is a dedicated healer from theTales of Graces FRPG. Her magic is incredibly formidable, and that’s not the only thing. She also uses throwing knives to pressure the enemy in keeping their distance so she can use her magic artes.
However, even though Cheria’s main arsenal is healing and support magic, she does have some high powered holy offensive spells, which can lay waste to foes.

Sadly, Triss could barrage Cheria with an onslaught of offensive magic, and the time it takes Cheria to get off a healing spell, she would meet her doom.
2Triss Loses: Magus (Chrono Trigger)
Janus or otherwise known as Magus from theChrono TriggerRPG is a young prince of the Kingdom of Zeal. His family is well known for their magical prowess, as his sister and mother were brilliant, but Janus was truly gifted.
He was transported thousands of years into the future, where he took control of a dark army who tried to kill him. Here is took on the name Magus and started a war against humanity, to become more powerful to protect the world.
Triss, even though she is an incredible mage, has no real defining purpose. Being up against someone with a desire, an aim he must fulfill at all costs, Triss has no hope of winning against someone like Magus.
1Triss Wins: Melia (Xenoblade Chronicles)
Melia is the daughter of the High Entia Emporer of the Royal City of Alcamoth inXenoblade Chronicles. She is a powerful magic-user, who mainly uses summoning spells to summon elemental spirits and debuffing/status spells to debilitate her foes, such as sleep, and bind. Melia can also cast support spells to buff her team, with helpful effects like strength up and regenerate.
Though she is mainly a support magic-user, the longer the fight goes on, the more powerful she becomes. However, this also works backward, as at the start of the battle, shes pretty week. So Triss will have to deal with her quickly; if not, Triss will be in for a trying time, as Melia can weaken her magic.
