The adorable Minions return to the big screen with Illumination’sMinions: Rise of Grureleasing soon. Steve Carrell will be voicing the character of Gru once again, and withThe Officebeing one of his most successful projects on the small screen, the perfect crossover between both platforms has been revealed to mark the release of the upcoming film.
The social media account forThe Officeshared the crossover video, which transforms the introduction segment of the popular series into the land of the Minions. The iconic Scranton office from theUS version ofThe Officeis filled with some energetic yellow creatures, with Gru acting as the manager and running meetings. The fun remake video is loaded with Easter Eggs from both projects that fans will recognize instantly.

The video follows the same format as theoriginalThe Officeopening credits, with the Minions replacing the show’s main characters. The animation is added onto the original video, which makes for an interesting watch. The video begins with the immediately recognizable music from the opening, and Gru’s logo now sits on top of the Dunder Mifflin building, which is now called the Dunder Minion Evil Company. A minion is seen spray-painting a banana onto the Scranton sign, while a bunch of minion workers arrive at the office. The scenes that follow are almost exact replicas of the original opening, with the closeup shot of someone scanning documents, an individual using a calculator, and some classic office gossip around the water cooler.
In a nod to some of the main characters inThe Office, the remake video features the main creatures from theDespicable MeandMinionsfranchise. Kevin, who is seen dressed up likeRainn Wilson’s Dwight Schrute, sits at his desk and discovers the stapler in the Jell-O, an iconic moment fromThe Office. Stuart, who wears a wig in order to look like John Krasinski’s Jim Halpert, is on the phone as he fires a grenade launcher, probably hinting at Halpert’s sense of humor in the series. Bob fills in for Jenna Fischer’s Pam Beesly at the reception desk. Otto replicates the funny chili spill moment fromThe Office. Finally, Gru is the Michael Scott of the Minions office with his boss trophy, a nod towards Carrell because he plays both characters.
The Officeran from 2005 to 2013and has gone on to develop a large fan following in the years, especially after it was readily available to stream on Netflix. The mockumentary sitcom was nothing like theDespicable Mefranchise, and Carrell is the only thing in common between both projects. His character Scott started a lot of conversations, with many laughing at his nonsensical jokes and others getting offended at his sexist remarks. But, the remake is a fun watch for fans of either franchise nonetheless.
