Several days ago, Sony hosted another PS5 event that also saw the launch ofResident Evil 8’ssecond trailer. It is worth remembering thatResident Evil 8was announced at Sony’s previous PS5 event, and the debut trailer gave fans a preview of the upcoming game’s overall vibe.

However, the first trailer was mostly vague, and the second one released in the latest PS5 event is no better, at least on the surface. Of course, given thatResident Evil 8is still far away from release, it is understandable that Capcom is still hesitant to divulge specific details on the game’s story, but based on what has been revealed, players can take away two important things aboutResident Evil 8.

There Is No Question That The Game Will Be Horror Focused

Ever sinceResident Evil 4, the franchise has found itself in an identity crisis. There was a time when fans weren’t sure whether the nextResident Evilgame would be action-oriented or survival-horror. However, with the release ofResident Evil 7last 2017 and the recentremakes ofResident Evil 2 and 3, it appears now that Capcom is committed to staying true to the franchise’s roots and the trailers ofResident Evil 8reflect just that.

Based on the latest trailer, it is evident thatResident Evil 8is going for an atmosphere similar to its predecessor, with barely-lit environments and, of course, the first-person perspective introduced inRE7.Resident Evil 8also appears to be taking inspiration fromResident Evil 4, with its village setting and enemies that appear to be members of a cult, butResident Evil 8is expected to bring new things to the franchise, such as enemies that appear supernatural.

Of course, there is still much to know about the upcoming game, but one thing that players can be sure of, based on the trailers alone, is thatResident Evil 8will be like RE7 and have an emphasis on survival horror. Gone are the days when fans would have to guess whether the nextResident Evilgame will remain true to its roots because it appears thatResident Evil 8is committed to doing so, but how players will receiveRE8remains to be seen. If the game is genuinely taking inspiration fromResident Evil 7, though, then players should expecta nightmare-inducing experience inResident Evil 8.

There Are Zombies Wielding Weapons, But the Rumors Are Still in the Air

In a split second in the latest trailer, players should see what looks like zombies equipped with weapons. It is worth remembering that beforeResident Evil 8’sannouncement, rumors circulated thatthe game will feature zombies wearing armor with swords. In the latest trailer, the enemies that look like zombies are holding weapons, but instead of swords, they wield farm tools. It doesn’t appear that any of the zombies featured in the trailer are wearing armor, so whether or not this part of the rumor is real remains to be seen.

Of course, given thatResident Evil 8is set in some a remote village, these zombies might be that village’s residents. However, they do not look like the Ganados fromResident Evil 4,so it is safe to assume that a different virus or parasite is behind the creation ofthe enemies inResident Evil 8. At the moment, while the latest trailer forResident Evil 8gives players some insights on its enemies, the game’s primary story is still unknown. Moreover, Chris Redfield, Ethan Winters, and his wife Mia are once again featured in the preview, and it is still a mystery how Capcom will approach the continuation of their storyline in the upcoming installment.

Resident Evil 8is scheduled to release in 2021 for the PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X.
