Captain Marvel can effortlessly destroy Kree ships by flying straight through them, and she can hold her own againstThanos without the Infinity Stones. However,The Marvelsexecutive producer Livanos says there is one thing more powerful than Captain Marvel in the sequel.
In an interview withCollider, Livanos explained that the one thing more powerful than Captain Marvel “is the scope and power of the universe itself, and that’s actually what she’s up against in this film.” Livanos also talked about her work onGuardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2and how those films showcase the vastness of space in the MCU. Livanos wantedThe Marvelsto show fanswhat Captain Marvel has been doing sinceAvengers: Endgame. “It’s been theorized what she might be up to, and we really do get to catch up with her in this film and come to understand where she’s been [and] who she’s connected with.” Livanos also explained why Captain Marvel needs Ms. Marvel and Monica Rambeau’s help.
“Of course, she’s incredibly powerful, but the only thing perhaps more powerful than Captain Marvel is the scope and power of the universe itself, and that’s actually what she’s up against in this film, which is why it’s so important that she has the other two Marvels with her because she can’t be expected to shoulder the burden of the universe all on her own. Together, a team is more than the sum of their parts.”
No matter how powerful Captain Marvel is, she can only be in one place at a time. So Carol Danvers will need the help of Kamala Khan and Monica Rambeau (and maybe theX-Men based on The Marvels' final trailerfor the film) to defeat a Kree revolutionary known as Dar-Benn.The Marvelsis expected to “paint the biggest picture of the cosmic Marvel Universe,” so fans should expect to see The Marvels on various planets throughout the film.
Having a powerful superhero who can easily handle any threat makes creating an interesting conflict for the hero difficult.The Marvelsseemingly found an interesting way around this issue bygiving Captain Marvel a problemshe couldn’t punch her way out of. Along with the film’s body-swapping plot,The Marvelswill be a unique part of the MCU.
