It stands testament to the game’s superb writing, but also shows that the romance choices, while plentiful, don’t offer much to make them stand out.
InHaunted Chocolatier, the romance optionscould be used as something to potentially alter the story, progression, or presentation. Instead of having a partner feel like part of the scenery, they could have more to do to feel substantial, and to be this way, it could mean that fewer options are available to make sure that they are properly developed, instead of feeling like window-dressing and something that doesn’t drastically change the experience.Haunted Chocolatierlikely won’t be a complex dating simulator, but improving the system currently in place could be dependent largely on the developer’s willingness to offer fewer characters to start a relationship with.

Having a similar number of romance options that are developed similarly could make it feel too samey. Fewer, or even none at all, could prevent the player from being distracted from all the new mechanics and innovations thatHaunted Chocolatiermakes. A life simulator doesn’t have to include a bounty of romance options. Instead, having just two or three could even serve to be more realistic, reflecting the dating pools in small towns.
