Summary

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wildalready had plenty of secrets for fans to seek out in the years since the game launched in 2017. However, Nintendo has tripled the amount of exploration with their follow-up,Tears of the Kingdom, which has been out for well over a year at this point. With the addition of Sky Islands and the Depths, players might feel overwhelmed.

While there’s plenty that’s best left for players to discover on their own, these are some items no one should completeTears of the Kingdomwithout obtaining. Some may require players to complete specific quests, while others are hidden in secret areas only the most determinedZeldafans will be able to find.

Star Fragment in a chest in Breath of the Wild

8Star Fragments

They’re Easier To Find Than You Think

Star Fragmentsare hard to come by inTears of the Kingdom, as they’ll randomly fall from the sky in the middle of the night throughout Hyrule. The only indicator that players are near one is by seeing a beam of light, but considering how integral the item is to upgrading rare armor sets, players might be curious about how they can stock up on these items more easily.

Fortunately, there are ways to farm Star Fragments, albeit players are limited to only one per in-game day. When diving off Skyview Towers, Star Fragments will frequently appear, falling beside Link, is an easy way for players to snag one without having to rush to a pillar of light in the distance. Be quick, though, as Star Fragments disappear after 5am in-game!

Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kindom - Knocking A Scale Off By Hitting Dinraal’s Forehead

7Dragon Parts

To Upgrade Armor, You’ll Need Courage

Much like Star Fragments, armor upgrades also frequently require materials from one of the four dragons that roam Hyrule: Farosh, Naydra, Dinraal, and the Light Dragon. There are five different types of parts players can farm from the dragons, but getting them will be quite a challenge, as they’ll need to shoot arrows at the dragons from up close in midair.

Fusing arrows with any kind of monster eyeballs is a great way to guarantee a successful hit against one of the dragons, though it can be tough to control which part it hits. The parts will drop at 10 minute intervals, so patient players can wait on the dragon’s back before obtaining another part, thoughthey’ll have to watch out for weather hazards.

6Champion’s Leathers

Zelda Hid Something For You In Hyrule Castle

InBreath of the Wild, Link’s iconic blue tunic can only be obtainedafter revisiting one of the Captured Memories, butTears of the Kingdomrequires a different method to obtain theChampion’s Leathers. However, players will have to tread through Hyrule Castle, which to enter early on will require lots of stamina, gliding, and surviving the monsters inside.

Once players make it to the Throne Room, they can use a fire arrow or torch to light two braziers flanking either side, which will open a hidden compartment with a treasure chest. There, players can find theChampion’s Leathers, which can then be upgraded, albeit as previously mentioned, they require materials from the Light Dragon.

The Miner’s Armor Set in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

5Miner’s Armor

Never Wander Into Darkness Again

Exploring the Depths can be quite treacherouswhen players aren’t fully prepared to explore the darkness in-between Lightroots. While Brightbloom seeds are useful for lighting the way, there’s an armor set which does the trick that can be found in Daphne’s Canyon Mines. It’ll be a bit of a journey to get there, but the closest chasm entrance is the Hyrule Field Chasm.

The pieces of theMiner’s Armorare scattered throughout the area. TheMiner’s Topwill be found at Daphne’s Canyon Mines, while the Miner’s Trousers are in the Hylia Canyon Mine, and the Miner’s Mask in the Abandoned Kara Kara Mines. Fully upgrading them will also only require a plethora of Brightbloom seeds and Zonaite, which will make it a decent armor to stay defensive while exploring the Depths.

4Ancient Hero’s Aspect

A Worthwhile Reward For A Monumentous Task

Finding and completing all 152 shrinesinTears of the Kingdomis a Herculean task in of itself, but at the very least, players have a sweet reward waiting for them at the end. Returning to the Temple of Time on the Great Sky Island, the Goddess Statue inside will reward players with theAncient Hero’s Aspect, which makes Link look like a Zonai.

The armor can be fully upgraded to a whopping 84 defense points, and it also comes with an incredibly useful skill: Master Sword Beam Up, which increases the power of the Master Sword beam at full health. The only downside is fully upgrading the Ancient Hero’s Aspect will require some materials from Silver Lynel, but with the defense provided by this armor, it should be an easier fight.

TotK-Hylian-Shield-Featured-3

2Hylian Shield

Don’t Forget This IconicZeldaProp

While the Master Sword will be obtained during the main story ofTears of the Kingdom, players might be curious how they can get the other piece to Link’s iconic sword-and-shield combo. Like the Champion’s Leathers, theHylian Shieldis hidden in Hyrule Castle, though players will have to conquer a series of puzzles near Hyrule Castle Docks to locate it.

Thankfully, players who are used to flaming torch puzzles by this point will find it to be a breeze. After lighting all the torches, a treasure chest will appear with the Hylian Shield inside, boasting the best defensive points of the gameat 90. The only downside is that re-purchasing it at Cece’s shop in Hateno Village will cost a hefty 3000 Rupees each time.

Hestu giving Link “Hestu’s Gift”

1Hestu’s Gift

It’s… Certainly AUniqueGift

Finding every Korok seed inTears of the Kingdomcan take a long time, especially given that the game introduces difficult quests in whichplayers have to reunite separated Koroks. However, after acquiring all 1000 of them scattered throughout Hyrule, Link will be called to meet with Hestu in Korok Forest, near the Great Deku Tree.

However, Hestu’s reward, “Hestu’s Gift,” looks like… well, we all know what it looks like. It also seemingly does nothing, though having it in the inventory will let players watch Hestu’s dances any time they’d like. Although this is a pretty useless and rather disgusting item, that reward of seeing Hestu dance is simply priceless.
