OneStarfieldplayer came across a bizarre bug that made their ship go rogue, abandoning them to go start a war with the United Colonies. The peculiar problem persisted even after reloading a save and staying on the vessel, with this unusual ordeal thus adding to the list ofissues that someStarfieldplayers have been experiencingsince the game’s release.
In the grand scheme of things, Bethesda’s space-faring RPG is a fairly polished title, at least relative to the company’s past launches. But whileStarfielddelivered on the promise of being the least buggy Bethesda gamein recent history, some issues clearly still slipped through the cracks during its development.

One of the people who can attest to that fact is Reddit user Randol0rian, who recently stumbled upon a highly unusual bug that caused their ship to go rogue and attack nearby United Colonies vessels. They first experienced the problem after boarding the Eye in Jemison’s orbit, only to immediately witness their spacecraft take off from the station without them in order to go hunt down a nearby UC carrier. However, subsequent testing revealed the glitch extended far beyond the Eye, with the player reporting that theirStarfieldvessel was just as happy to start a war with the United Colonies with them on board if they ever dared get up from the pilot’s seat.
Some fans chiming in on this incident speculated that the rogue spacecraft was originally a pirate vessel that the game still treated as such whenever the player wasn’t piloting it. And while that theory fits its hostile inclinations, Randol0rian revealed that they actually built their vessel from scratch, using a stolen House Va’ruun ship as the base of which nothing remained. Since that faction’s fleet isn’t hostile toward the UC, thisunexpectedStarfieldbehavioris possibly of different origin.
That notwithstanding, the bug definitely appears to be tied to a specific spacecraft, not least because the player found that switching to a different home ship stopped the random UC attacks, but going back to their custom-built vessel resumed them. Making matters even more mysterious is the fact that this problem did not materialize immediately, with Randol0rian claiming they’ve been using the ship for “dozens of hours” with no issues before it developed a mind of its own. They ultimately managed to resolve the problem by going into theStarfieldship builder, adding another module to the vessel, and then immediately removing it.
This odd bug is not the first such curious issue that the fandom witnessed in outer space since the RPG’s release; previously, oneStarfieldplayer experienced a bizarre glitch that uprooted New Atlantis, making the game “an unplayable mess.”
