The wait forSpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom Rehydratedis almost over. The newest trailer reveals more gameplay and a brand new multiplayer mode. A multiplayer mode was not expected for the game, but appears to have co-op missions, survival mode, and minigames.
The newBattle for Bikini Bottom Rehydratedtrailer dives right into gameplay by showing off the three playable story characters, SpongeBob, Patrick, and Sandy. Each character appears to have different abilities that help various ways throughout levels. SpongeBob is seen chopping with his karate gear and transforming into a rolling ball, while Patrick is seen sliding and bouncing around obstacles. Sandy uses her lasso for swinging across gaps, floating in the air and defeating enemies. The previous trailers highlighted a good amount of gameplay, but did not feature Patrick or Sandy in action.

The multiplayer mode is the biggest surprise of the trailer, but it appears more characters will be available in the multiplayer mode. During the trailer, Squidward, Mr. Krabs, Plankton, and even Gary are seen as playable characters in multiplayer. Interestingly, every shot shown highlighting the multiplayer also has a giant robot Squidward in the background. This may mean that multiplayer will have large boss battles like the story mode.
The trailer also reveals more of the boss battles, which features Jellyfish King, Flying Dutchman, and robot versions of Patrick, Sandy, and SpongeBob. It is not known whether these bosses will show up during the multiplayer mode, or if they are exclusive to the story mode. Also shown is gameplay of various minigamessuch as racing and a time trial for SpongeBob’s bubbles, which may be playable in multiplayer as well.
