Spider-Man: Miles Moralescontinues to look like the must-have next-generation console launch title to pick up this November. It’s no surprise then that Sony and Insomniac continue to strongly advertise theSpider-Mansequel. The latest example comes in the form of a new trailer which shows some gameplay from the early portion ofSpider-Man: Miles Morales. The trailer drops a decent spoiler, revealing who the first boss ofSpider-Man: Miles Moralesis. It appears to be the returning villain, Rhino.
In the short clip, which runs less than 90 seconds, players are shown a sequence where an apparent helicopter prison transfer goes awry. The setup is that bothPeter Parkerand Miles Morales, in costume, are up to something. Given that Miles apologizes, it can be assumed that he makes a mistake of some kind that leads the helicopter in the convoy crashing. It just so happens that this prison transfer convoy was carrying Rhino.

Rhino breaks out of the container that he was being held in and, between clips, gets his prison cuffs off, too. It’s not too hard to imagineRhinosnapping the cuffs off as he pleases. After that, there’s a big jump in time. Now Rhino and Miles are at a different location with large power generators with Peter Parker nowhere in sight. Where what was shown before was all cinematic, the rest of the trailer is all gameplay showing Miles fight Rhino.
Miles has some different powers compared to Peter Parker and Spider-Man fans get to see that in action here. Miles is able to use hisvenom shock powers to deliver a Venom Punchto Rhino when he’s vulnerable. Miles is also able to jump on Rhino’s back and force him to charge into the power generator. The last notable aspect of the gameplay shown is the return ofMarvel’s Spider-Man’s quick-time events, which give battles a cinematic flourish on top of normal combat.
In this situation, it’s clear that Rhino, who is bulky and slow, is being used as a tutorial boss fight. He’s used to help players get used to jumping, punching, executing combos, and using finishers in sequence. And he poses much more of a fun threat than basic grunt-type enemies. It might also be worth assuming that the sequence leading up to the fight is a tutorial forMiles learning to web-sling. That may be how he caused the helicopter accident.
The entire trailer raises some interesting questions aboutSpider-Man: Miles Morales. After all, ifMiles is the protagonistof the game, how does Peter Parker fall out of the picture? He’s there at the start of the game, but not there for the fight. There are some Spider-Man-related shenanigans afoot.
