Doctor Octopus, a.k.a. Doc Ock, is one ofSpider-Man’smost iconic villains. The character has appeared across many different mediums over the years, including comic books, video games, TV shows, movies, and the upcomingSpider-Man: No Way Home. The character is perhaps best known for his four robotic arms that extend from his back, which give him a distinct Octopus-like appearance. Now, one very talented fan has recreated these arms using a 3D printer.
Reddit userfroskitouploaded a video of themselves to r/marvelstudios that shows them operating a pair of Doc Ock arms. While they aren’t as menacing as the ones worn by the character, they’re still impressive, and the fact that they move and can be used to hold objects is pretty cool. The video showsfroskitomoving the arms up a down while also having them menacingly grip aSpider-Manmask. Hopefully,foskitocreates a full set of four arms along with an authentic Doc Ock costume. First appearing in the comics back in 1963, Doctor Otto Octavius, a.k.a. “Doc Ock,” is one of Spider-Man’s oldest and most well-known villains. The character has appeared numerous times throughout Marvel Comics history and was even the founder of theSpider-Mansupervillain team The Sinister Six. Once a respected member of the scientific community, Octavius became a supervillain after his mechanical tentacles were fused to his back.
Doc Ock made his live-action debut in 2004 in directorSam Raimi’s highly regarded superhero sequelSpider-Man 2, where he was portrayed by actor Alfred Molina. In the film, Molina’s character begins as a mentor to Peter Parker but after his experiment to create a fusion reactor goes horribly wrong, he turns to a life of crime. Now, nearly seventeen years later, Molina is reprising his role as the mad scientist in the upcoming MCU filmSpider-Man: No Way Home.
A digitally de-aged Molina made a brief appearance in thefirst trailer forSpider-Man: No Way Home,delighting fans of the Raimi film.Spider-Man 2is widely considered by many to be not only one of the bestSpider-Manmovies of all time but one of the best superhero films ever made. Molina’s memorable performance as Doc Ock is one of many factors that’s often touted by fans of the film. Indeed, he is one of the most recognizable superhero movie villains, so it will be very interesting to see him reprise the role so many years later.
So far, Molina is the only actor from the Raimi films who is confirmed to be reprising his role, although it seems pretty clear at this point that other Raimi-era actors,such as Tobey Maguireand Willem Dafoe, will also make appearances. Hopefully, the new movie does not disappoint fans of the character, who as we can see from fans likefroskito,is still considered an iconicSpider-Manvillain.
