Many fans were frustrated with the complete shift in meta and the return of players that had previously left Warzone to play the new game. The initial frustration changed and became centered around several key aspects ofCall of Duty: Warzonethat fans feel the integration has harmed.

While players have spent the last several months mastering differentModern Warfareweapons to keep up with the changing meta,Black Ops Cold Wardumped an entire game’s worth of guns into the battle royale. Players who only knewModern Warfareweapons were immediately outmatched by those who had been playingBlack Ops Cold Warsince launch. To make matters worse, the meta began to focus on one gun rather than several as the DMR quickly rose to the top. Popular streamers have begun coming up withways to counter the DMR inWarzone, but the gun is still mostly unchallenged.
Another aspect of the integration that upset many players is the new Gulag experience. Rather than something truly original, the new Gulag is a broken-down version of the Nuketown map. This map immediately draws controversy since it has been remade half a dozen times across several games. The underwhelming reception of this map even spurred popular streamerDr. Disrespect to design his own Gulag map, pending permission from Activision.
Players are also worried that the game developers are so focused on the new content that bugs are slipping through the cracks. While bugs and glitches have always been a part ofCall of Duty: Warzone, gamers are worried that adding essentially a whole game into the battle royale is just compounding on issues. There is already anew glitch that makesWarzoneplayers invincible, and many fans are concerned these issues aren’t being prioritized.
The integration is still very new, so there is plenty of time forCall of Duty: Warzoneto find a nice middle ground. While many fans are wanting the battle royale to be a standalone experience, others enjoy the fact that they can hop between the games and keep most of their progression. The next several weeks will be a good indicator as to what the future ofCall of Dutywill truly look like.
