Super Smash Bros. Ultimatehas been one of the Switch’s biggest games ever since it first launched in 2018. Nintendo has kept fans engaged withSuper Smash Bros. Ultimateon a long-term basis by releasing new content for the game regularly, including a host of DLC characters from Nintendo series and third-party franchises. Three years later, Nintendo’s post-launch support forSuper Smash Bros. Ultimateis finally coming to an end, with the last DLC character set to be revealed on Tuesday, October 5, and there are plenty of theories floating around about the character’s identity.
One theory that has been picking up steam recently is the possibility that the finalSuper Smash Bros. UltimateDLC character is none other thanSora fromKingdom Hearts. This is due to a 4chan post from July 30, where the Anonymous poster claimed to work for Disney and said that Nintendo was requesting the rights toKingdom Heartstracks for use in a digital event taking place on October 5.

While video game “leaks” from 4chan can usually be dismissed, genuine leaks have come from the site before, including leaks about Nintendo games. Not only that, but the poster mentioned a Nintendo digital event months before Nintendo officially announced theSuper Smash Bros. Ultimatefinal character reveal date, lending it more credibility than it would have otherwise, though it could still just be a lucky guess.
A reputable Nintendo leaker has suggested that thefinalSuper Smash Bros. UltimateDLC character will be third-party, which would fit Sora. However, Sora is perhaps one of the least likely third-party characters forSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate. It was previously reported that Disney is keeping Sora fromSuper Smash Bros. Ultimatefor whatever reason, though it’s always possible that the company has had a change of heart.
TheKingdom Heartsgames originated on PlayStation, but have long been associated with Nintendo.Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memorieswas originally a Game Boy Advance exclusive game, with a number of otherKingdom Heartstitles coming to Nintendo handhelds as well. And with other Square Enix characters already inSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate, Sora seems like an obvious choice, despite theissues with Disney.
Cloud and Sephiroth fromFinal Fantasy 7are already inSuper Smash Bros. Ultimateas playable fighters, and the game has a number of other references to Square Enix titles. This combined with this latest leak may make it seem more likely than ever before that Sora is finally coming toSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate, but fans may want to keep their expectations in check just to be safe.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimateis out now, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
