Despite being over a decade old,Skyrimremains one of the topgames that fans of medieval and high fantasy still playtoday. Though the nature of an open-world game can be overwhelming to some gamers, some ofSkyrim’s locales are considered a sight to behold. While some players may remember locations such as Solitude, the Throat of the World, or the island of Solstheim from theDragonbornexpansion, some locations may go overlooked in a normal playthrough of the game. On Reddit, a user named FanFourStick struck up a conversation on the r/skyrim subreddit, and asked all users what their favorite underrated locations and forts inSkyrimare. The OP then shared a screenshot of Ilinalta’s Deep, which is an abandoned fort located north of Falkreath in the southern side of Skyrim. The fort itself is a location thatplayers on the hunt for Daedric weapons and artifactswill come across, as it is involved in the quest to cleanse Azura’s Star of its necromantic corruption. As a result of its disrepair, the fort is home to necromancers, undead foes, and the occasional hagraven.
The post from FanFourStick received over 3.5k upvotes on the r/skyrim subreddit in two days. In the comments, over 200Skyrimplayers chimed in with some of their favorite underappreciated locations. One of the top comments brought up the village of Ivarstead, located in the Rift to the southeast, and one of the last villages players will encounter before ascending the 7,000 Steps. Players may not give Ivarstead much thought when passing through, butthe nearby waters and Nordic ruins provide quite a backdropfor players that have certain texture mods enabled. Other locations that players named included the Forgotten Vale from theDawnguardexpansion, as well as Anise’s Cabin located near Riverwood.
While naming every obscure and underrated location may differ from player to player, that just showshow long an open-world adventureSkyrimis. WhetherThe Elder Scrolls 6can live up to that reputation remains to be seen.
