Whiterun is one of the most well-known locations inSkyrim. If the player is following the path of the main story, it is the first major settlement they will discover. Home to Dragonsreach, theCompanions quest, and plenty of other recognizable features and stories forSkyrimplayers. For many players of the fifthElder Scrollsgame, Whiterun is a place of fond memories buying their first player home or seeing what cities inSkyrimlooked like. However, something that might be remembered less fondly is the trip a player has to take to reach the settlement.
Following the player’s arrival at Riverwood, and the news given to either Alvor or Gerdur thata dragon was spotted at Helgen, the Dragonborn will then have to travel to Whiterun in order to progress the main questline. Of course, fewSkyrimplayers will feel the need to save the world from Alduin once they have the entire region of the Nords to explore. Still, as Whiterun is the first place where a player can hire a carriage and begin the companions quest line, many make their way to the city.

Arriving at Whiterun can prove to be quite the task, especially onmultipleSkyrimplaythroughs. This is not due to any particular problem involving bandits or other enemies on the road. Instead, walking up to the front gates can prove quite the task, considering the winding nature of Whiterun’s road. It seems as one of the many things in and around Whiterun that doesn’t make sense, but one player has found a shortcut cutting the time it takes to walk to Whiterun down hugely.
The method involves a bit of parkour and knowing where exactly to go, but isn’t too difficult once a player knows what they’re doing. At the first of a few walls the player must walk under they will see a destroyed piece of stone next to an incline. There, they can jump up onto the wall, proceeding to jump up onto the balustrade before running along it and finding themselves right outside Whiterun’s front gate. From there, aSkyrimplayer just has to inform the guard that a dragon is on the way, and they’ll be let into the city.
From there, the player has discovered Whiterun and can fast travel to the city at any point in the future. Besides the city itself, there are a couple of other places in Whiterun that are tricky to get to. Notably, the Skyforge requires an awkward climbto be reached, but oneSkyrimplayer has pointed out a shortcut to that location as well.
