It’s safe to say that manySkyrimfans play the game for that sense of immersion, and a new mod makes the epic Bethesda release that little bit more believable by causing NPCs to react when the player turns invisible. Known for itsmedieval fantasy-inspired role-playing elements, as well as all that dragon slaying,The Elder Scrolls 5has stood the test of time and is a shining example of how a video game can stretch itself across several console generations.
What makes the 2011 RPG such a hit is the way it pulls fans in with its immersive elements. For example,Skyrimhas a ton of NPCs to interact with, each with their own path and dialogue. However, many would likely agree that conversations with characters can feel limited, especially for those who have been playing the game for years. As such, this sense of immersion can be broken a little bit after hearing the same voices utter the same lines over and over again.

Fortunately, this can be rectified with custom content. One example comes from veteranSkyrimmodder and Nexus Mods user JaySerpa, whose most recent uploaded, called “NPCs React to Invisibility,” does exactly what it says on the tin. Now, whenever the Dragonborn uses an invisibility spell in front of citizens, they will utter words of shock and surprise, even asking the player where they went. A video shows the mod in action, with the creator saying that they’ve implemented around 300 new lines of dialogue that have been spliced from vanilla audio. For an additional dose of realism, the description says that not all NPCs will react. For example, mages and other characters who are used to magic “won’t be surprised.”
This download pairs quite nicely with aSkyrimmod that makes NPCs react to necromancy, which was also created by JaySerpa. The modding community alone continues to do a great amount for what many now consider a rather dated RPG. For those who are growing a little tired of the vanilla experience, there are near endless ways to improve the immersion, add new content, or just give the game a little visual boost to make it look more modern.
Skyrimis already quite lengthy, but the addition of mods only increases this longevity. It’s one of the reasons the 11-year-old game is still as popular today as it was when it released. There’s no way of knowing whetherThe Elder Scrolls 6will enjoy a similar legacy, but fans will find that out as and when the long-awaited follow-up actually comes out.
