Since its launch, battle royale fans have continued to enjoyCall of Duty: Warzone. Developer Infinity Ward has continued to supply players of the free-to-play game with new weapons and playable characters. Although the game recentlyreached 30 million players, some, like popular Mixer streamer Shroud, believe that the game’s days on top are numbered.

Shroud’s complaints do not come from disliking the game. The streamer previously saidCall of Duty: Warzonewasbetter thanApex Legends. However, in a recent stream highlight, Shroud revealed why his interest inWarzonemight not last for much longer, and talked about why he was personally ready to stop playing soon.

As he played through a round ofCall of Duty: Warzone,Shroud said that there was no inherent problem with the battle royale. Rather, he thought that the problem was with theCall of Dutyseries itself. The Mixer streamer explained that he felt everyCall of Dutygame has a “limited lifespan” because the games never innovate on their core gameplay. CitingPlayerUnknown’s Battlegroundsas a comparison, he pointed out that the game had a consistent player base because it was the first of its kind. Personally, Shroud stated that he plays eachCoDgame for approximately two weeks before he gave up, andWarzoneis reaching the end of that timeframe.

Although some might disagree with Shroud’s predictions, the streamer does make a solid point. The battle royale market is highly saturated, and without an interesting twist, it would be increasingly difficult for a game to survive. Moreover, with some surfacing criticism about howCall of Duty Warzone’s movement is worse thanApex Legends’gameplay, it raises the question of how the game will distinguish itself from its competitors once the novelty wears off.

However, such criticisms should not stop fans from enjoying whatCall of Duty: Warzonehas to offer. With the newest content and upcomingmysteries like the bunkers,Infinity Ward is still doing its best to keep its community interested. Ultimately, only time will tell whether or notWarzone’s player base will dwindle. But hopefully, continued improvements to gameplay will allow the game to retain a strong community for its 150-player rounds.

Call of Duty: Warzoneis out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
