As with its predecessors,Shin Megami Tensei 5sets out to give the player as much content and a reason to come back to it after completing the game as possible. There are multiple endings and post-game content that require the player to take certain routes through the story, adding more to the replay value.

In addition to multiple endings,Shin Megami Tensei 5has two new-game plus modes. These new game-plus modes are called Newborn and Reborn.

Which Mode Should You Choose

The Reborn new game plus mode inShin Megami Tenseiis theeasiest versionand better suited to players that liketo do speed runs. It could also be argued that given the game’s difficulty, the Reborn mode is also the most fun and it is something of a power trip being able to despatch enemies in an almost god-like manner in combat. It should be noted, however, the only thing that ismissing from the Reborn mode is the Talismans. The Talismans are key itemsthat allow the protagonist and his demon to initiate the Magatsuhi skills.

For players that are looking for more of a challenge on their second playthrough, they should choose the Newborn mode. The Demon Compendium will carry over, making it easier to create demon fusions and theDemon Proficiency Miraclesalso carry over. This is still very useful because it will unlockmore skill slots for the demon allies. Keep in mind that the battles are just as challenging as the player’s first run-through of the game. Unless of course, they want to bump the difficulty up and make the game even more challenging.

SMT 5 reborn Mode

So whether one is looking to punish themselves or walk the apocalyptic lands of Tokyo like a demi-god, Reborn and Newborn mode has something for everybody.

Shin Megami Tensei 5is available now for the Nintendo Switch.
