Actor Simu Liu has gone from being a stock photo model to one of the most recognizable faces in Hollywood following the success ofMarvel Studios’Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. He has now added writer to his glorious resume and revealed the first look at his memoir,We Were Dreamers: An Immigrant Superhero Origin Story.

TheMarvelstar shared the cover and first page of his memoir on his official Twitter account on Tuesday. Keeping it simple, Liu features on the cover ofWe Were Dreamersalong with a quote fromactress Olivia Munnthat refers to the book as “a sincere, funny and fascinating love letter to family.” While Liu had confirmed that he had written the book back in June 2021, it is only now that the cover has been officially revealed, along with a release date of June 14, 2025.

In Liu’s own words,We Were Dreamersis “a hilarious and heartfelt tale about coming of age in a foreign land, struggling to find your footing and ultimately learning to seize your moment and own your greatness.” The book is already available for pre-ordering online, but will only arrive in bookstores later this year. Liu confessed that this book is his “whole heart and soul,” and it took him nearly three years to write the story of his “little family of dreamers.” He also shared an image of the first page, or prologue, in the book that sheds light on the phone call thatLiu received from Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feigeto inform him of his lead role inShang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

Liu has never been shy about sharing his life’s story with the press in the past, and has spoken about his family’s struggles several times. Having immigrated to Canada from China, his parents initially found it difficult to fit in and experienced racism over the years.Liu has also spoken up against Asian hate crimesin the US, while reflecting on his own experiences of growing up in a foreign land. It seems like he will be referring to his journey in his memoir as well.

What started off as afunShang-Chitweet to Marvelbecame a turning point in Liu’s career. Being selected for the role of Shang-Chi will obviously play a big role in his upcoming memoir, as he went from being an immigrant to a superhero. The memoir is sure to give his fans some insight into his inspiring story, and may even encourage them to dream big.
