Spider-Man: No Way Homereignited the fans' desire to see sequels that continued the original Spider-Man stories. Now, fans have been treated to a glimpse at John Malkovich’s Vulture costume for Sam Raimi’s scrappedSpider-Man 4film.
Spider-Man: No Way Homeis the third mainlineSpider-Manfilm in Disney’s iteration with Tom Holland as the famous web-slinger. This live-action version separates itself from the previous two by having Spider-Man on the same screen as Iron Man and Captain America. Holland’s Spider-Man also brought in villains who weren’t used in previous films, such as Mysterio, Shocker, and Vulture. The new take on Vulture was played by Michael Keaton and was loved by many, so much so thatKeaton’s Vulture had a cameo inMorbius.

Recently, fans saw a behind-the-scenes photo of what could’ve been if Sony continued the originalSpider-Manseries. The photo revealed the Vulture costume Malkovich would have worn inthe scrappedSpider-Man 4film. The costume relies on practical effects to bring the gigantic mechanical wings to life. Writer and designer Ken Penders posted the photo, dating back almost 15 years. “Before Tobey & Sam were bid adieu by Sony, work actually had begun onSpider-Man 4, and I visited friends who were working on the Vulture’s costume intended for actor John Malkovich.” Penders wrote. “Once production shut down, all materials were turned in. I’ve sat on this for almost 15 years.”
Fortunately, the Vulture fromSpider-Man: Homecomingended up being much darker and more deadly than the green spandex comic book version fans are used to. However, it’s still disappointing to see all the production crew’s hard work go to waste due to the falling out between Sony and Raimi. However, Raimi has expressedinterest in returning to work onSpider-Man 4following the success ofDoctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.Fans want Raimi to return under Disney’s management, as many have expressed their distaste for Sony’s Spider-Man Universe.
Regardless of which route Marvel Studios chooses to go with these characters, many anticipate the next time they see the web-crawling crime fighter. Whether it’s Andrew Garfield, Tobey Maguire, or Tom Holland,the possibilities for Spider-Man are endless.
