Last week, rumors started appearing online that Nintendo was going to host a Nintendo Direct presentation in January. Then Nintendo announced aPokemon-themed Directfor January 9, seemingly putting to rest hopes for a general Switch Direct. However, a new rumor making the rounds online claims that Nintendo is planning on hosting a second Nintendo Direct presentation as early as next week, with this one focusing on Switch games, includingSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate.

This rumor stems from a video released byDevil May Cry 3producer Matt Walker, who has teased something for Switch owners that will be announced on January 16. Previously, January 16 was the “leaked” date of the January Nintendo Direct presentation, which has led some online to connect the dots and assume that whatever it is will be revealed during the Nintendo Direct.

It’s possible that Walker is simply referring to newDevil May Cry 3content for the Switch version of the game, but others think that the rumored Nintendo Direct for January 16 will seeDevil May Cry’s Dante announced for theSuper Smash Bros. Ultimateroster. While that may sound outlandish, it’s worth pointing out that Dante has been rumored forSuper Smash Bros. Ultimatein the past, and not only that, but there are multiple Capcom characters on the game’s roster already.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimateplayers can already play asMega Manand Ryu fromStreet Fighter, so it’s not a stretch to think Capcom may be interested in bringing another one of its top characters to the ambitious crossover fighting game. Of course, it’s possible that whatever is coming on January 16 is completely divorced from Nintendo and is something Capcom is doing all its own, so fans should keep that in mind as well.

The identity of thenextSuper Smash Bros. UltimateDLC fighterhas been the subject of much rumor and speculation for months now, as many fans are anxious to see who’s next. Most of these rumors have been debunked, but with the character originally believed to be coming this past December, one has to imagine that a proper reveal is just a matter of time.

Whether or not that reveal takes place during therumored January 16 Nintendo Director not remains to be seen, but fans don’t have to wait much longer to find out.
