This past week, Sony announced an upcoming PlayStation State of Play event for June 2. Since then, speculation has gone into overdrive as PlayStation fans theorize what games could be featured or announced. One Capcom game, in particular, is commonly being brought up. That game isStreet Fighter 6,the sequel to the industry’s most successful fighting game franchise. It’s believed that Capcom will take the opportunity PlayStation is offering to fully unveilStreet Fighter 6during the event. One common source pointed to as starting the conversation regardingStreet Fighter 6’s potential announcement is Games Beat’s Jeff Grubb. Grubb is a reliable source for industry information, particularly with regard to E3 and other summer gaming events. Following the announcement ofSony’s State of Play event, Grubb posted on Twitter that, “This is probably where SF6 shows up.” It’s hardly an official confirmation, but Grubb likely feels confident about it.RELATED:Street Fighter 6 Logo Looks Almost Identical to Adobe Stock Photo ArtTo elaborate on Grubb’s point, he says that he isn’t absolutely sure whenStreet Fighter 6will be announced. However, he does say that Capcom is “supposed” to have theStreet Fighter 6announcement prepared for one of the summer events. Further, he says that he expectsStreet Fighter 6to be featured at theEVO fighting game tournamentevent in August, but that the game will already be properly revealed by then.

Street Fighter 6has already been officially announced, of course. A short cinematic teaser trailer was released in February featuring Ryu and Luke, who debuted inStreet Fighter 5, as well as the game’s logo.Street Fighter 6wasn’t necessarily a secret, however. The massiveCapcom leak from 2020showed thatStreet Fighter 6was tentatively planned to launch in Q3 FY2022. A reveal ofStreet Fighter 6is coming soon, clearly, so it’s just a matter of when.

IfStreet Fighter 6does get shown off, there’s a major question that will need to be answered alongside it.Street Fighter 5is a PlayStation console exclusive. It launched on PC and PS4 and hasn’t been ported to other platforms since. Some attribute this decision to whyStreet Fighter 5has struggled in comparison toStreet Fighter 4. The Capcom leak impliedStreet Fighter 6would be coming to different platforms, but a reveal during PlayStation’s State of Play would hint otherwise.

It’s unclear what other event would make sense for Capcom to revealStreet Fighter 6at, at this point. TheSummer Game Festlive show is on June 9 and will host a variety of major publishers. Xbox’s show is on June 12, but it’d be shocking for Capcom to jump over to PlayStation’s competitor. A Capcom event could be announced yet, but seems unlikely. The PlayStation State of Play seems prime for aStreet Fighter 6announcement, though fighting game fans will just have to wait and see.
