Summary
AMD’s Ryzen 9000 desktop processors, powered by the company’s highly anticipated Zen 5 microarchitecture, could launch in late July, if details provided by online retailers are to be believed. In addition to these Granite Ridge CPUs,AMD’s Zen 5 lineup will feature the company’s next light mobile (Strix Point), extreme mobile (Dragon Range), server (Turin), and enthusiast/workstation (Shimada Peak) solutions.
At the recent Computex technology expo, AMD CEO Dr. Lisa Su officially unveiled Ryzen 9000, the semiconductor giant’s next-generation series of desktop processors. Four new CPUs were announced at the event, namely the Ryzen 5 9600X, Ryzen 7 9700X, Ryzen 9 9900X, and Ryzen 9 9950X. AMD only mentioned during its Computex presentation that Ryzen 9000 processors would hit store shelves in July, but details posted by online retailers may have narrowed down the release date and even provided prices for some of the chips.

Listings for the AMD Ryzen 9 9900X and the more powerful Ryzen 9 9950X on B&H Photo Video showed that the CPUs would be available for pre-order on July 31. Meanwhile, an inaccessible Canada Computers page charged 839 CAD, or around $610, for the 16-core 9950X that is promised to reach max clock speeds of 5.7 GHz. That would make the upcoming Zen 5 chip less expensive than its predecessor, the Ryzen 9 7950X, when comparing launch prices. Considered to be one of thebest CPUs in 2024, the 7950X entered the market with a $699 MSRP.
Core-for-core, AMD’sZen 5 CPUs could be more than 40% faster than their Zen 4 counterpartsin certain workloads like the SPEC (Standard Performance Evaluation Corporation) benchmark, according to past rumors. In comparison, the jump from Zen 3 to Zen 4 saw a 13% instructions per clock uplift.

AMD Zen 5 Ryzen 9000 Granite Ridge Possible Release Date
Aside from Granite Ridge, online retailers have seemingly leaked details regarding AMD’s Strix Point light mobile processors. A BestBuy product page for the Asus Zenbook S 16, equipped with the new AMD Ryzen AI 9 365, indicated that the laptop would ship out on July 15. Like its rival, Nvidia, AMD has been pushing hard on products that are focused on artificial intelligence-centric applications, with team red releasingAI-infused Ryzen Pro CPUsin April.
In April,AMD also globally launched two Ryzen processorsthat were previously only available in China. TheseAMDchips, the Ryzen 7 8700F and Ryzen 5 8400F, lacked integrated graphics and were exclusively available to original equipment manufacturers like pre-built computer makers.
