Updated on May 13, 2025:Leaker I’m A Hero Too, AKA Resetera user Head on the Block, claimsthat thePersona 2project isn’t a remake but a remaster ofInnocent SinandEternal Punishment, featuring new translations and QoL improvements, that’s planned for every platform including the Switch 2 and “next-gen Xbox.” They also claim that thePersona 4remake has yet to enter production and is “years away.” The original story follows.
Summary
Atlus is currently working on the remakes of the second and fourth mainlinePersonagames, a well-known insider has said. Their claim is a strong indicator that the recent release ofPersona 3 Reloadis just the start of the Japanese studio’s efforts to reimagine some classicPersonaentries for modern sensibilities.
RPG fans have beenasking for Atlus to remake the olderPersonagamesever since the company officially announced its intentions to revisit the third numbered entry in the franchise, which has just released to critical acclaim on February 2. There has also been no shortage of support for a potentialPersona 4remake, although the 2008 title still holds up fairly well relative to its 2D predecessor.

Be that as it may, both titles might actually end up getting revisited in the future. That’s according to the well-known Atlus insider Midori, who has recently taken to Twitter to casually mention that thePersona 2andPersona 4remakesboth already exist at the Japanese studio. The leaker did not elaborate on the matter, leaving the fandom to speculate about the status of the two projects. It is unclear whether the mentionedPersona 2remake will only encompass the 1999 release,Persona 2: Innocent Sin, or also includePersona 2: Eternal Punishment, its 2000 sequel.
Since joining Twitter in October 2022,Midori has leaked a wide variety of information about Atlus projects, mostly focusing on thePersonaseries. Although some of their claims are still up in the air, none have yet been proven as inaccurate. That impeccable track record has even led some fans to speculate that Atlus is either in on Midori’s leaks or perfectly fine with them, arguing that they could not have gotten away with sharing such highly specific info for so long without the company being able to track down its source.

Even If They Exist, Persona 2 and 4 Remakes Are Likely a Long Way Out
So, while it’s prudent to take all rumors of this sort with some skepticism, Midori’s past accomplishments spell good news for the possibility of thePersona 2andPersona 4remakes truly being in the pipeline. As for when exactly they might hit the market, that seems unlikely to happen before the much-anticipated sixth mainline entry is finally released. According to Midori’s latest update,Persona 6is currently targeting a 2025 launch, although its reveal time has yet to be decided.

WhilePersona 4has never been fully reimagined, the second entry in the franchise has actually already been treated to a remake in 2011, when Atlus brought it to the PSP. Launched 12 years following the original’s PS1 debut, the PSP version ofPersona 2: Innocent Sinis one of the worst-rated mainline entries in the franchise with a Metacritic score of 75. The game has received some vocal criticism due to a number of its design choices and mechanics, which some reviewers had already labeled as outdated back in 2011. Nevertheless, the game still enjoys a cult following, not least because of its memorable story, characters, and soundtrack.
Persona
Persona is an RPG franchise developed and published by Atlus, spun off from its larger Megami Tensei franchise. Originally releasing in 1996 under the name Revelations: Persona, the series typically follows a core group of High School students who have access to Personas, physical manifestations of a person’s psyche and subconscious, to do battle in combat. Newer games in the franchise, starting with Persona 3, have introduced the idea of Social Links, which lets players further strengthen and evolve Personas based on time spent with their owners outside of dungeons.
