Right now,Call of Duty: Modern Warfareis one of the top games in the world, largely thanks to the free-to-playWarzonebattle royale that’s associated with it. However,Call of Dutyfans know that a new game in the first-person shooter franchise comes out every fall like clockwork, and so a new game will be stealing the spotlight soon. And while Activision has yet to officially reveal any specific details about the 2020Call of Dutygame, a well-known leaker has revealed some new information about what fans can expect.
TheGamingRevolution, who has accurately leakedCall of Dutyfranchise news in the past, has uploaded a new video aboutCall of Duty 2020. Apparently,Call of Duty 2020will be set in theBlack Opsuniverse, but will not retain the “Black Ops” subtitle. This would mark the firstCall of Dutygame from Treyarch to not be called “Black Ops” since 2008’sCall of Duty: World at War12 years ago. It should be noted, however, thatWorld at Warwas also directly tied to theBlack Opsnarrative.

Previous reports have indicated thatCall of Duty 2020would be calledBlack Ops 5or even just “Black Ops,“but if TheGamingRevolution’s information is correct, that is no longer the case. The rest of the video reiterates some other information aboutCall of Duty 2020that’s been talked about in the past, like the game’s supposed Cold War setting and how at least part of it will take place during the Vietnam War.
Luckily forCall of Dutyfans, more information on whatCall of Duty 2020will entail should come sooner rather than later. Activision typically reveals its newCall of Dutygames in May or June each year, so an announcement should come within the next couple of months. Then again, theongoing coronavirus pandemichas thrown a big wrench in a lot of entertainment company’s plans, and so it’s possible thatCall of Duty 2020’s announcement will come later than expected due to it.
In fact, previous reports have indicated thatCall of Duty 2020will be announced next month, though the game itself may see a delay. IfCall of Duty 2020is delayedout of this year, it would be the first time that a main seriesCall of Dutygame didn’t release sinceCall of Duty 2launched in 2005.
There’s a lot of uncertainty when it comes toCall of Duty 2020. Activision won’t even confirm its developer, though it’s generally believed to beTreyarchat the helm. Considering this, hopefully some things are cleared up sooner rather than later so fans can stop speculating about what’s next for the long-running first-person shooter franchise.
