Back in the 1990s, real-time strategy titles were practically a staple of PC gaming. To this day, the RTS genre is still enjoyed by many. Earlier this year, Gentlymad Studios’Endzone: A World Apartleft Early Access on Steam, and has since gone on to become an award-winning title. Now, the game’s latest expansion,Prosperity,is on the horizon.
Coming toSteamand GOG this October,Prosperitywill add new elements toEndzone: A World Apart, such as new materials and buildings, and new challenges. In the trailer for the DLC, the narrator says the team listened to the fan base, coming up with ideas to make playing a more “comfortable experience”, perhaps shifting it away from it beingone of the more difficult RTS games.Prosperityalso adds some key building elements, such as water pumps to supply water to settlements, as well as new production sites, such as a sand mine and concrete factory.
The originalEndzoneis more than just aclassic RTS game likeWarcraftorCommand and Conquer; it’s a survival sim in which players are tasked with building settlements in environments that are harsh and unforgiving. Toxic rain, sandstorms, and radiation all plague the environment to make it a challenging game in which schools, farms, and more, need to be built to allow a population to grow and stay alive.Prosperitytakes those aspects and allows for a more secure form of living, such as through the addition of coffee, soap, and cake to make life in this world more bearable.
Assemble Entertainment, who has also worked on publishing the modern versions of theLeisure Suit Larrygames, says the DLC is due out on PC on October 21. The company also says that just becauseProsperitywill have a focus on a more lavish gameplay style, it doesn’t mean that the dangers from the base game will be going away. However, it seems as though the developer has taken steps to make the overall RTS experience a little more manageable for players.
TheProsperityDLC forEndzone: A World Apartwill be coming to Steam and GOG on October 21.
