Metroid Prime 4was announced for the Nintendo Switch in June 2017 and fans of the franchise have been waiting for more news on the project ever since. Initially confirmed to be developed by Bandai Namco in partnership with Nintendo, the first-person adventure game was then revealed to have been rebooted with Nintendo’s own Retro Studios handling the sequel. Retro, while largely running silent since, has now offered up a hint regarding the every-mysterious status of its newMetroid Primegame.
It’s not a major reveal or announcement, by any means, but Retro Studios did make a recentMetroid-related change to its Twitter profile recently that has fans talking. The official Retro Twitter profile has, for years, featured a very straightforward banner. It was the Retro Studios logo with a black background. That’s now changed, however, with the banner now featuring a dark, alien-esque room or hallway with what appears to beSamusstanding at its center.

To start, it’s important not to read too much into the situation.Retro Studiosis already known to be working on the newMetroid Primegame for the Nintendo Switch. It’s potentially only over two years into development, which means there could be a significant amount of time yet before Retro is ready to share more about it. This change could simply be a public acknowledgment ofMetroid Prime 4’s continued development and nothing more.
Fans, obviously, are going to read into the situation a little more deeply. While there’s nothing explicit about the banner change implying that more information aboutMetroid Prime 4could be forthcoming, this change could hint at Retro planning to something soon. It could be seen as preparation for biggerMetroid Prime 4reveals in the relatively near future.
Alternatively, the image itself could be the reveal, a cryptic message hidden in what would otherwise seem an innocuous concept art. Perhaps there’s more to the location in the image, ormore to Samus. Perhaps it isn’t Samus at all, or perhaps the shadows implyMetroid Prime 4will have certain dark or ghostly themes.
If the banner change for Retro’s Twitter account confirms anything, it’s that Nintendo fans remain very excited for more information aboutMetroid Prime 4. It’s been nearly five years since the game was first announced and there’s little more to show for it. It just goes to show how beloved theMetroid Primetrilogyremains and how willing fans are to wait for the game to be done as Retro truly wants.
