There is little debate that the hottest multiplayer video game genre right now is battle royale. Everybody wants to take a crack at the genre or a spinoff of it, and most of it began withPlayer Unknown’s Battlegrounds. Despite being one of the first and roughest popular battle royale games,PUBGis still going strong with over 70 million copies sold.
That said,PUBGhas lagged behind its contemporaries in some departments. As one of the first battle royales to popularize the genre, it is missing features now considered essential. It was decidedly unpolished for a long time, and has struggled somewhat to keep up with newer, sleeker battle royales.

This is being addressed by the team behindPUBG, and updates have been rolling out for a while. Season 8 ofPUBGwill feature several improvements, includinga revamp of the Sanhok map. Sanhok is one of the most popular maps inPUBG, so the right improvements will be a major boon to the community.
One big change will be the addition of automated loot trucks to the map. These trucks, unlike other vehicles, are not pilotable by players, but drive around the map on their own. Each one is a mobile legendary loot container for players to crack open, like big, armored pinatas.
The trucks came about from brainstorming sessions to improve the game, branching off from the train added to Vikendi. These improvements came after players compained about the game deteriorating in May. ThePUBGdevs acknowledged the complaintsand set about working to make their game a better experience. With Season 8 rolling around, it seems things have certainly gotten more interesting. That said, there’s no guarantee the loot trucks will actually work well, and it’s something the devs will have to keep an eye on.
The loot trucks apparently move around the map based on an A.I. system that each truck has. Rather than drive on set routes, they have several to choose from based on elements around them. Players will have to get tricky to catch up, stop the trucks, and bust them open.
Roadblocks may not be so effective, as the trucks can apparently go offroad as well. This could lead potentially lead to some very funny moments, and no doubt there will be some hilarious truck glitches shared in the near future. Once they are caught, buy convention or glitch, it’ll take boom equal tothe new Panzerfaust weaponto bust them open.
Devs will be keeping an eye on the trucks to see if they are too juicy of a drop point, and if they provide too much power. It would be a shame for the trucks to shatterPUBG’s new ranked mode, but it’s always a possibility. The trucks roll out on July 22nd for PC and July 30th for consoles.
