A new rumored leak claiming to know thePlayStation 5’s price and release date, yet reads more like a PlayStation fan’s most-wanted list, is making the rounds on Reddit and social media. The leak stems from an anonymous source on a 4chan imageboard and has absolutely no corroborating evidence at hand. It’s very likely fake, but nevertheless, the leak is interesting to consider. According to the leak, thePS5’s price and release datewill be $499.99 and October 2020.
The leak claims that the $499.99 price point will be for the base model of thePS5and that there won’t be a secondary model for the time being. The PS5 base model will “almost on-par” with the Xbox Series X in terms of hardware, but the Xbox Series X will apparently cost $100 more. The console’s biggest new feature is full backward compatibility with previous console generations through the original PlayStation, including PSP. It’s unclear if it’s all digital, but must be.

The PS5 launch line-up of games is also included in the leak. Launch titles will include 5 different major games. These include unannounced titles likeGran Turismo 7,Demon Souls Remastered, and a Sony Santa Monica game namedLegendz. The other two games areGodfall, which was announced at The Game Awards 2019, andMLB The Show 21, which has recently been announced to be a multiplatform game. Other games, includingHorizon Zero Dawn,Crash Bandicoot, andSpider-Mansequels, will also be announced.
As for when the PS5 will be unveiled, the leak says that aPlayStation Meetingis planned for July 12, 2025. During the event, Sony will unveil the PS5 in full. That includes a first look at the console and its UI, the new DualShock 5 controller, the console’s hardware specs, and more. Media will apparently be given the opportunity to get hands-on with the PS5 and try several of the games.
It bears repeating that this leak is completely uncorroborated. It’s almost certainly made-up by a random video game fan who had some time on their hands. Nevertheless, there’s always a chance it’s accurate. And if thePS5 revealevent really is planned for February 5, fans will know about it soon.
ThePS5launches in late 2020.
