Pokemon ScarletandVioletare going to be the first fully open-worldPokemongame, and The Pokemon Company also announced that players will be free to explore the world in any order they like from the get-go. Of course, this breaks away from the renownedPokemonformula where progression is halted by specific in-game events, be it that players have to defeat a particular Gym Leader or maybe have an encounter with a villainous team. Speaking of Gym Leaders, a knownPokemonleaker called Riddler Khu shared information about them,Pokemon ScarletandViolet’s Elite Four members, and the possible Pokemon types they will specialize in.

In fact, Riddler Khu stated that their leaks for the month of July will all revolve around the characters that players meet in “Titan,” which is the supposed codename forPokemon ScarletandViolet. Among the recent tweets, Khu shared one that is seemingly about the villainous team forPokemon ScarletandViolet, and the riddle’s interpretation is tied to amanga calledCrows.

Khu’s tweet is quite simple in its format, as it states “Titan V,” and then the Japanese name of the aforementioned manga, hinting at thevillains inPokemon ScarletandViolet.Crowsis a manga about a group of “bad boys” who are in high school, and the link toPokemon ScarletandVioletcould be twofold. One way to see it is that Khu is revealing the name of the villainous team in Generation 9, which could be something like Team Crow, as this follows the same format as other games in the series.

The other interpretation is more likely to be the correct one, though, and it’s tied to the fact thatPokemon ScarletandViolet’s themes involve that of schools and students. The next logical step is that theCrowsmanga is a way to allude to villains who are students from high school, whereas the protagonist inPokemon ScarletandVioletis a younger kid. The villains could have a feud with the Professors or simply have their own agenda, but still reinforce Gen 9’s already confirmed school theme.

Because the official information surroundingPokemon ScarletandViolethas been quite scarce so far, Khu has been providing fans with a lot to look forward to. Another one of their recent leaks was aboutPokemon ScarletandViolet’s new systems and gimmicks, with hints about how the various scenes showcased in both official trailers already revealed important things coming to Gen 9. Still, villains were not part of either of the two trailers thus far, and it’s interesting to see where this thread might go.
