Summary

APokemon Scarlet and Violetplayer created a retro-inspired work of sprite art for the upcoming Paradox Pokemon called Raging Bolt, and shared their work on social media with other trainers. Feedback from otherPokemon Scarlet and Violetfans was positive, as they remarked that the artist did the best they could with the divisive design of Raging Bolt.

Like other Paradox Pokemon, Raging Bolt is based on a Pokemon from a previous generation of games. In this case, it is based on Raikou, one of the Legendary Beasts ofPokemon Gold and Silver. Known as the Thunder Pokemon, Raikou is a fast Electric-type Pokemon with high special attack and speed stats. However, Raikou is held back by its lack of move variety and a glaring weakness to Ground-type attacks. Just like Walking Wake, the Paradox form of Suicune, Raging Bolt is aprehistoric Pokemon based on a dinosaur. The Pokemon Company confirmed that Raging Bolt is an Electric/Dragon Paradox Pokemon that will be exclusive toPokemon Scarletonce The Indigo Disk DLC is released in winter 2023. Following the reveal of Raging Bolt, one artist decided to share their take on the Paradox Pokemon.

On Reddit, a user named CourageousArcanine posted their sprite art of Raging Bolt on the r/pokemon subreddit. Inspired by games such asPokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver, the OP chose a combat stance for Raging Bolt’s sprite. With its right front leg raised, and its neck craned back in a defensive pose, the Paradox Pokemon looked ready to strike at its foe. Though other fans have madesprites of Raging Bolt and other upcoming Pokemon, that has not stopped the OP from offering their take on what the Pokemon could have looked like in a pastPokemongeneration.

The Raging Bolt post from CourageousArcanine received nearly 800 upvotes on r/pokemon within two days. Since the reveal, the design of Raging Boltremained a divisive topic amongPokemonfans. However, the sprite work of CourageousArcanine was praised by other users who stated that they did a good job with what they had to work with. One user also appreciated the smug expression that the artist gave Raging Bolt. While the OP stated that they had a personal bias toward the sprites of olderPokemongames, they thanked every user who complimented them for the effort.

Whilefan concepts of Paradox Pokemonremain popular on social media, so does fan art of newer Pokemon in an older style. It remains to be seen what creativePokemonplayers such as CourageousArcanine come up with next.
