Summary

An artisticPokemonfan recently showed off an impressive custom Game Boy Advance SP themed after the legendary Rayquaza. The Game Boy Advance era ofPokemongames is one that fans remember fondly thanks to the third-generationPokemon Ruby and Sapphiregames and their later updatePokemon Emerald, along with equally popular spin-offs like the originalPokemon Mystery Dungeon Red Rescue Team,Pokemon Pinball: Ruby and Sapphire, and thePokemon FireRed and LeafGreenremakes of the classicRed and Blue.

There were plenty of now-iconic Pokemon introduced during this generation, with one of the most noteworthy being the powerful Sky High Pokemon Rayquaza. This mighty Dragon/Flying hybrid was one of thestrongest Legendary Pokemon in the Generation 3 gamesalongside Kyogre and Groudon, and even served as the cover creature forPokemon Emerald. It remains incredibly popular to this day, withPokemonfans creating special Paradox forms for Rayquaza, imagining what it would look like in aMonster Huntergame, and even getting tattoos of the all-powerful dragon.

Custom Rayquaza Game Boy Advance SP Handheld Dazzles Pokemon Fans

The Game Boy Advance SP was introduced in 2003, with the North American launch taking place just a few short days afterRayquaza’s debut inPokemon Ruby and Sapphirein that region. It was one of the last updates to the Game Boy Advance before the release of the Nintendo DS in the fall of 2004, with an updated model featuring an improved backlit screen being introduced a year later. Some SP owners have found some creative uses for their old handhelds by converting them into Nintendo Switch docks and miniature arcade cabinets. Someone even figured out how to build a working Game Boy Advance SP replica out of LEGO bricks.

BklynMando’s custom Game Boy Advance SP might not be as drastic a transformation as some of these examples, but it’s still an impressive display of creativity that is all the more fitting given that Rayquaza was first introduced not too long before the handheld in question, at least in North America. BklynMando has worked on plenty of other funPokemonGame Boy Advance SP designs, highlighting other popular creatures like Totodile, Venusaur, and Kuromi.
