The Game Boy Advance SP was introduced in 2003, with the North American launch taking place just a few short days afterRayquaza’s debut inPokemon Ruby and Sapphirein that region. It was one of the last updates to the Game Boy Advance before the release of the Nintendo DS in the fall of 2004, with an updated model featuring an improved backlit screen being introduced a year later. Some SP owners have found some creative uses for their old handhelds by converting them into Nintendo Switch docks and miniature arcade cabinets. Someone even figured out how to build a working Game Boy Advance SP replica out of LEGO bricks.
BklynMando’s custom Game Boy Advance SP might not be as drastic a transformation as some of these examples, but it’s still an impressive display of creativity that is all the more fitting given that Rayquaza was first introduced not too long before the handheld in question, at least in North America.
