Numbers 150 and 151 of the original generation ofPokemon, Mewtwo and Mew are Psychic-type legendaries, of which the franchise’s first major theatrical film centers around. While it’s a common conception that Mewtwo is the stronger of the two, there are actually quite a fewthings Mew can do that Mewtwo can’t do.

The folded paper versions of Mew and Mewtwo were created by Reddit user u/CrafterWong, which boasts a more unique stylistic approach than most. Rather than trying to go for as close a depiction to their fully-fledged features as possible, thePokemonfan and artist opts for a more chibi style of the two Pokemon. Both creatures have their precise color scheme and eye shape on display, but their limbs and heads are highly polygonal, giving them a bit of a retro video game look. Despite the tiny contact points, the figures are impressively able to remain upright.
The skilled artistic creation is being lauded by fans, with the comments section almost universally comparing the folded paper figures to the art style of thePokemon Rumbleseries. One of the lesser-known spinoffs of thePokemonfranchise,Pokemon Rumbleis a beat ‘em up series of titles featuring toy-like versions of Pokemon. The subfranchise’slatest entryPokemon Rumble Rushwas unfortunately shut down after being released for about a year, with the series’ developers getting bought out and dissolved.
While the Mew and Mewtwo figures are certainly impressive, they aren’t the only folded paperPokemonfigure making headlines. ProlificPokemonorigami artist u/ino87origami has recently constructed adetailed origami figure of Vaporeon. The Water-type evolution for Eevee, this artist goes for regular art style accuracy, including its tail-fin, spine ridges, and neck frill. It and the Mew and Mewtwo reflect a seemingly ongoing trend of creating just about any Pokemon, specifically from folding sheets of paper.
Even though origami appears to be one of the hottestPokemonfan art mediums, it definitely isn’t the only one. Another fan recently madea Mewtwo LED neon light, complete with smoke effects. It’s certainly safe to say thatPokemonhas some of the most artistically talented fans in the world.
