Celebrating some of the conceptual Pokemon forPokemon Diamond and Pearlthat didn’t end up in the final version of the game, onePokemonfan has animated unique sprites based on the Gen 4 beta creatures. DespitePokemon Scarlet and Violetdrawing much of the community’s attention in recent days, thisPokemonenthusiast continues to be inspired by Gen 4.

A Reddit user has garnered 1,300 upvotes on a short video highlighting their animated sprites of thePokemon Diamond and PearlPokemon that got lost to time in the development process.SincePokemon Red and Bluewere released, there were beta Pokemon that never made it into the Pokedex such as the widely known Pikablu, andPokemon Diamond and Pearlare no different.

Reddit user R3dd1t_D4v1d recently shared a brief clip of their interpretation of what thePokemon Diamond and Pearlbeta Pokemonmay have looked like in the final version of the game. The video begins with a drawing of an unused Nosepass evolution. The secondPokemon Diamond and Pearlbeta Pokemon that the video focuses on is a smaller red version of the shark Pokemon Gabile, which many fans have dubbed angry Gabile given the fin on its head and frown on its face.

Usually outshone by the form that eventually made it into thePokemonseries, thePokemonGen 4 beta form of Arceus is the third in R3dd1t_D4v1d’s lineup of animations, depicting a red-eyed quadruped that has wispy hair that seems to have inspired the spiky nature of Arceus' eventual design. Similar to Arceus, thePokemon Diamond and Pearlbeta form for Flying and Bug-type Yanma, which came to be known as Yanmega, has a sprite that’s bent differently from what made it into the games, and the color combination more closely resembles army fatigues than the official design. Like the Yanmega, the next Pokemon is a version of Hippowdon that didn’t end up in the final version of the game, while the last one is an alternate form ofGen 4 Water-typeLumineon.

The animatedPokemonGen 4 sprites created by R3dd1t_D4v1d may givePokemonfans an idea of what the beta creatures may have looked like in battle sequences as they move in place. Givenhow many beta Pokemon existacross the many generations that have already been released and that more may be added in time, R3dd1t_D4v1d may breathe life into more of these cut Pokedex entries in the future.
