Summary
APokemonfan and artist has created new evolutions for Water-type Pokemon Magikarp, Lapras, and Swanna. Magikarp and Lapras are perhaps two of the most easily-recognizable Water-type Pokemon, as they have been in the franchise since the Generation 1 games,Pokemon Red and Blue. Swanna may not be quite as well-known, as the Water/Flying-type hybrid didn’t debut until theGeneration 5Pokemongames,Pokemon Black and White, but it still has its fans.
At the time of this writing, neither Lapras nor Swanna have official evolutions, though Lapras has a special Gigantamax form that gives it a dramatic new appearance. Magikarp, however, does evolve. In fact,Magikarp evolves into Gyarados, easily one of the most popular Pokemon in the entire franchise.

Reddit user and artist JJonnie has now created brand-new evolutions for Magikarp, Lapras, and Swanna. Their new Magikarp evolution is called Magikoi, a Water/Fairy-type that combines elements of koi fish and the yin and yang symbol. TheLapras evolutionis called Valapress, which is “optimized for speed and transportation.” This is highlighted by the Grookey that can be seen sitting on the back of the Valapress. And finally, JJonnie has created a Swanna evolution called Swanella. Swanella has a design clearly inspired by ballerinas, possibly a nod to the famous balletSwan Lake.
The designs look rather impressive and could pass for officialPokemondesigns. It’s possible Game Freak will eventually create its own evolutions for Lapras and Swanna, though that remains to be seen. It’s also possible that Game Freak will create an alternate evolution for Magikarp, as it has done for other Pokemon in the past. It’s unlikely that any such Pokemon will be introduced in the upcomingPokemon Scarlet and VioletDLC, though.
New Pokemon are being introduced with thePokemon Scarlet and VioletDLC, but there’s been no indication that any of them will be related to Magikarp, Lapras, or Swanna. If such evolutions were to come, the next most likely time would be with the Generation 10Pokemongames. The Generation 10Pokemongames have not been announced at the time of this writing, but rumor has it that they will be set in a region themed after Australia. With Game Freak and Nintendo stillactively supportingPokemon Scarlet and Violetwith new content, it will likely be quite some time before fans get to see the Generation 10Pokemongames. They will have to keep themselves entertained with fan art designs in the meantime.
