Fans of theKillzonefranchise have gone without a new entry to the series in over seven years, as the most recent entry wasKillzone Shadow Fallon PS4 back in 2013. As upsetting as that may be, it hasn’t been enough to cause fans of the franchise to lose hope, but a recent update to the PlayStation website is giving fans some cause for concern.

For those that don’t know, the developers of theKillzonefranchise are Guerrilla Games, a studio owned by Sony. As such, it gets a special place on PlayStation’s website as well as a mention of its popular games. It’s no secret that Guerrilla Games is also behind the extremely successfulHorizonfranchise, butZero Dawn’ssuccess and the anticipation forForbidden Westcould mean bad news forKillzone.

On the website, each first party studio is listed by name alongside one or two franchises that they are best known for. Under Naughty Dog, Sony listsJak and Daxter,Uncharted, andThe Last of Us, and under Sucker Punchit references bothSly Cooperand the more recentGhost of Tsushima, but Guerrilla Games' entry only mentionsHorizonwithout a single word aboutKillzone.

This likely wouldn’t be so alarming if other studios also only listed one major game. It’s likely at this point that more players would recognize theHorizonfranchise over theKillzonefranchise, so the decision to focus on that makes sense, but why not add the extra sentence unless it was something that Guerrilla Games (or Sony) wanted fans to forget about?

Of course, it’s possible that this was just an oversight and fans are overreacting, but there are some factors to consider when thinking about whetherKillzonehas a future on PS5.Killzone Shadow Fallearned itself a prestigious spot as a one of thePS4’s initial launch titles, but since then, nothing has really come of the franchise. With Guerrilla Games working on releasingHorizon: Forbidden Westat some point in 2021, there’s really no telling when the franchise will once again return to prominence.

Thankfully, it’s clear that, at the very least, Sony hasn’t forgotten aboutKillzoneentirely. Perhaps the best indication of this can be found in the unlikely place that isAstro’s Playroomon PS5. While progressing through the SSD Speedway, players will come across various PlayStation exclusive game references including Cloud’s Buster Sword, but towards the end of the level, a squadron ofKillzone’s infamous Helghast Soldiers can be seen doing drills.
